This book is brilliant! A lot of autobiographies feel like stealth PR, but this really is no-holds-barred in the best possible way: Lily writes about everything from booze and cocaine to stardom and family drama with so much self-awareness, and always a sense of humour.
There are some parts of this book that are properly devastating to read, too. I cried my eyes out at the mentions of her miscarriage, and the detail she includes about her stalker is genuinely shocking stuff. It's political as well, which I like - Lily doesn't shy away from talking about how the police mishandled her case, and she segues her own experiences into a wider commentary on privilege, police treatment and power, which felt really important to read.
I've always quite liked Lily's music, but I'd definitely say I'm more of a fan after reading this. It felt like an honest, no-bullshit glimpse into the life of a very interesting person that just happens to be famous, no airbrushing needed.

I listened to this audiobook on BorrowBox. It is a celebrity memoir about Lily Allen and read by Lily Allen. I am a big fan of Lilly, I love her as a singer, she is a very talented writer and I always respected her as a strong feminist. I was not disappointed with her story. I found it to be brutally and refreshingly honest. I was a big fan before and I’m an even bigger fan now! ❤️
I’m not actually a big fan of an autobiography and I also would not call myself a fan of Lily Allen but I saw such good reviews of this I decided to pick it up.
The way Allen writes her story I found riveting; it isn’t in the traditional biography style where she uses dates to map out her past. Instead, she titles each chapter and delved into what happened to her in that way. For example, some of the chapter titles were “sex”, “money”, “work” etc. She doesn’t keep to a strict timeline though it is mostly in chronological order. She is brutally honest and it made me like her all the more for it. From discussing her substance addiction, to the inner workings of her marriage, the newborn she lost in childbirth and the numerous affairs and sex she had whilst married Allen is always forthcoming. She doesn’t shy away from anything.
I was completely hooked the entire time and admired her for being so open about her struggles as well as for overcoming them. The book was well written and I almost felt like I was hearing Allen talking to me directly, her voice shined through the entire book.
I really would recommend this book to give some insight into fame and the way those who are famous are treated by fans, press and their peers. It made me analyse the way we engage with those we love to see on the screen or listen to.

I loved it!!! I listened to the audiobook. I love her voice - her actual voice, as well as the writing. You could sometimes hear her sigh on the recording, and it added to the story. What a fascinating life so far.
