This review was going to be a three until I read the end....which is great and worth it.

5/5 would read again, anytime. this book is a mystery from cover to cover. totally unpredictable but lovable all the time. Each chapter was like a puzzle piece and the unfolding of the story from different perspectives was nicely satisfying. it challenged the way i saw the world the while still staying relatable.

I did not realize this was "fantasy" fiction going into reading it... so I think knowing that beforehand would've changed my opinion a little. The writing style of this was beautiful; so many chapters, sections, pieces that could break your heart with the emotion and feeling so vividly and openly written there. I felt a little lost throughout this though, and the ending seemed a little lackluster than what I was ultimately expecting.

In the small town of Bone Gap, everyone knows everyone. You would think they would care if one of their own goes missing, but when Roza goes missing, no one blinks an eye. Finn and Sean O'Sullivan are again left on their own, left by their mother and now left by their Roza. Finn knows that Roza was kidnapped, but cannot remember the kidnapper. "Bone Gap" follows the story of Finn trying to be a normal teenage while also trying to find Roza when no one believes him.

I enjoyed the book and found it an easy read. Each chapter is told from a different characters perspectives, mainly rotating between Finn and Roza. There were a couple parts in the book that were a tad confusing and just plain weird. Overall, I enjoyed the book and found it was a great book showing the coming of age of a teenage boy. With content warnings, the book was fairly clean. There were maybe two scenes that were leading up to something inappropriate but it never described the actual scene.

Genre: Fiction, Mystery

I have to admit that the beginning of this book had me wondering if I was going to enjoy it. It definitely has some magic, which was slightly unexpected, but I really ended up loving this book.

LOVED

10 out of 5 stars. This book was so out of the blue and surprising, I loved every second of it. Very dreamlike but also very clever and funny.

2.5/5

An intriguing story deeply rooted in magical realism.
The subtle references to Greek mythology were fun to tease out.
The author's prose left me a bit disappointed as well as her characterization of Poland and Polish characters.
I am a little hung up on what statement the author seems to be trying to make about beauty and the male gaze.

(I bet teenage me would’ve eaten this up)

What a beautiful story that defies cliches and features some amazing, flawed protagonists!
