The second installment of Amelia Fang finds Amelia and the gang adventuring to The Forest of the Light to find Tangine's fairy mother. Previously we learned all the children of Nocturnia are taught how scary and dangerous the creatures of the light are. So this is quite a feat for our young protagonists to take on especially when King Vladamir, the one adult with them, gest turned into a bee early in the book.
The story is surprisingly insightful about how those in power control the narrative for their own gain. It was much more intelligent than I was expecting from a middle grade book. Just another reason I adore Laura Ellen Anderson. I am so excited to read the third installment which just came to my library very recently.

I'm trying to not take these books that seriously given the audience and they're clearly intended to be silly, but this one had moments that were a bit much that almost took the enjoyment out for me. Florence in particular is a grating character and is quite literally the source of all the groups troubles in the beginning of this book. That would be fine, except the fact that she really shouldn't be there at all. She's the hardest to disguise and if the Light is so dangerous, having her (and Grimaldi) go with the King makes little sense. Amelia is pushing it, but at least she directly discovered the truth about Tangine's mom in the last book. Florence does get better as the book goes on since she's not purposefully ruining everything, but the yelling caps lock dialogue gets old.
There is an editing error in this book: There's a point where they meet the leprechaun and Florence is talking with Tangine and then suddenly she's sitting on him? I reread the section several times to make sure I didn't miss something, but there's no mention of her falling over where she might have sat on top of him. There's an implication that she gets spooked, but no physical description.
The ending is cute with the connection of the two worlds, and the artwork is incredibly cute and really is what keeps me coming back. Plus they're shot 1.5 hour reads.

The second in Laura Ellen Anderson’s Amelia Fang series finds Amelia and friends travelling to the Kingdom of the Light and face their fears.
Amelia is on a quest to rescue Tangine’s mother, Queen Fairyweather who has been missing for a while now.
Disguises are donned, angel-kittens are faced, puns are plotted, unicorns are discovered. New friendships are forged and truths uncovered in the frightening Kingdom of the Light.
Once more a fast-paced, funny adventure that takes the traditional ideas of Dark and Light and twists and plays with it in a good-natured way.
Very popular and so many youngsters have been asking for Book 3 and were sad that it wasn’t out yet but pleased when I could tell them when it was coming out, none of us though are very good at waiting.
