NO SOPORTÉ

This wasn't my favorite Maurene Goo novel but granted, I did read her newer stuff first. I love how Desi Lee believes that with the best-laid plans, anything is possible, including love. What I couldn't believe are the absolute lengths that Desi went to in order to make Luca fall for her. At times, I wanted to scream at her to stop her foolishness because it kept turning into a disaster. The best part of this story was the fact at the end that Desi learns that sometimes the best things in life don’t go according to plan.

I’m torn on this one. While I enjoyed it and it was extremely cute, I feel like there was not a proper comeuppance or lesson for our main character. Basically she manipulates the shit out of her man, to the point of putting his life potentially in danger twice, and that is beyond screwed up. The concept was cute until I realized she was literally going to follow the steps she’d created to the T even when she decided to stop. I knew eventually the other shoe would drop and Luca would be furious, because of course he would, but then it feels like she learned nothing when she fake freaking drowns herself! I loved the idea of her bringing his sketch to life, but she should have just chased him down n confessed then, did we need the drama? Also she says stuff like she loves him as justification for her acting insane, but c’mon. I understand her using it as a “plan” because she’s terrible at improvising, but I feel like so many times the story could have been tweaked to bring about a moral n it just didn’t. I guess losing Stanford was her penalty, but it still didn’t feel like a huge deal when she’s gonna get into a great school anyway, one conveniently closer to her bf who just forgives her n shrugs off the crazy. I don’t know, as far as far fetched plots can go I guess if you view this like the Kdramas in the book and over analyze you’ll hate it, but if you just have fun it’s a good time. I’m bad at completely turning off my brain so that’s why I’ve settled with my 3 rating haha. It might really be a 3.5 because it was a fun story and her dad was the sweetest character ever, but I don’t know, I think it missed the chance of being better than the dramas n just stuck to them a little too religiously.

This was a cute book but not as enjoyable as a 30-something.

I liked Desi but still cringed at some of her choices, you know which one I mean:
Spoilermissing your college interview because of a guy??

My favorite character is Appa and love how he handles Desi's choices SO MUCH. I do not how a parent can sit back and watch but he is an AMAZING DAD who raised an amazing daughter all on his own.

The romance was decent and the ending made sense
Spoilerif hard to imagine working. I always think high school romances will not last through college but I am a cynic. I think Goo left it in a good place.

This was super cute, and super diverse! And the father-daughter relationship was wonderful.

As a big fan of Korean dramas I was expecting different kind of crazy stuff to happen. Some of it was fun but some of it was just silly and even dangerous...And the ending wasn't exactly logically concluded. But overall it was a sweet story and it is always fun to read a book influenced by Korean culture ;)

❝You cannot control who you love, but you can always control how hard you fight

I loved this book, it was fun, adorable and over the top. I laughed, I almost cried, I got annoyed, I rolled my eyes, I cringed and in the end I fell in love, with the characters (specially the dad, he was definitely my favorite), the writing and how fun this story got. I couldn’t stop reading.

I have to admit, I did think it went a bit too far to the point of 0_0 and the consequences of certain actions were taken too lightly at times so that is why it wasn't a full 5 stars.
