cute fun summer read, I enjoyed most parts of it but sometimes desi acted like a clown and did some super weird and problematic things that just would not run in the real world, I believe (maybe a spoiler?) she was forgiven too easily at the end and her excuse was nonsense but whatever I guess it was still cute and I had my giggles so I’m satisfied with what I got.
I just don’t know if Maureen Goo’s books suit me I always find myself struggling midway through but I feel like I want to read another one by her so this might just be guilty pleasure reads lol.

This is pretty adorable. I don't know anything about K-dramas, but I know a lot of teens who do and will be so excited this book exists. Desi is a lot to take as a main character, which is not at all a bad thing. Her presence is just very much felt. She is like a teenage Leslie Knope. Desi comes up with an elaborate plan to find love her senior year of high school, and she is going to follow the plan. Some of the stuff she does is hard to swallow and a bit cringe inducing. I don't deal well with second-hand embarrassment so some parts were hard for me. But overall this is cute, fun, and a perfect read for teens who enjoy romance.
Cute story! I liked the characters and the ending was really cute. I felt like the character development was a little underdeveloped but overall it was a nice feel good story with a happy ending. I liked that everything worked out in a different way from how she wanted it. At first I thought there was gonna be more of a love triangle but it worked without it. Some of the filler characters were interesting but I wish they had been developed more.

So, this book was adorable. If you like Jenny Han, you'd probably like this. Really smart and naive protagonist. However, this book was absolutely ridiculous! The lengths Desi goes to to get Luca's attention are seriously INSANE. I don't use that word lightly either. About halfway through the book I started to realize that was probably the authors intention though. Since Desi was trying to mirror K-dramas, boy did she! So, go into this knowing it's a bit over the top, but it's honestly such a fun read anyway. And I ended up really rooting for Desi and Luca.
Also, it needs to be known that her dad is the best literary dad of all time. So so, adorable. He reminded me so much of my best friend's dad, which made him even more endearing to me.

Mmm. Esperaba más de este libro. Quizás estaba muy emocionada porque la idea de hablar de doramas en un libro me enternecía o me remontaba a ciertos momentos de mi vida, en la teoría sonaba muy bien pero en la práctica ya no tanto.
La historia de este libro va de una morrita que es una control freak y por eso ha sido la primer lugar en todo: popular, inteligente, con muchos premios… pero "en cuestión de amores nunca ha de ganar", le sale todo mal. Le sale todo mal hasta que decide seguir las reglas de los clichés de los dramas coreanos para ligarse a un vatillo que le gusta. Todo bien y gracioso hasta ahí, sin embargo, al leer las reglas o pasos que debía seguir me daba un revoltijo en la panza. No sólo eran machistas, sino caían en manipulaciones y situaciones muy vergonzantes. Aunque YA SÉ que así son muchos viejos doramas, verlo en escrito me daba mucho cringe.
Quizás es que soy muy consiente que los dramas nunca han sido equitativos y recuperan todo eso del amor romántico, pero nunca me los tomé en serio. Al verlos en esta personaje me hizo temer que quizás hay quienes sí y la verdad es que llegó a caerme mal. Pensé que la villana era la protagonista con todas esas necesidades ridículas de tener novio a huevo. Además según yo hay muchos dramas diferentes que pudo haber visto.
Por otra parte, sí a todo a su personaje masculino. Odio que me pase esto: el personaje masculino sí es muy lindo y me gustó y ojalá más vatillos así de interesantes existieran.
Pero bueno tampoco es el peor libro, de hecho hubo momentos que me divirtieron, tal vez no estoy de humor.
Pese a esto que les cuento, sí creo que es un libro que haría que cualquier fan de los doramas fuera a ver de nuevo sus clásicos favoritos, acá mencionan a It’s ok is love, My love from the star y… Nodame Cantabile, lol. Hubo otros que no reconocí y pensé que los estaba inventando, quizás ustedes sí los reconozcan.

That was magical. As a fool obsessed with Korean dramas, this was a kdrama in book form and everything I never knew I wanted. Understanding the references...relating to this poor girl...having to shove my face into a pillow to giggle...being unable to handle the secondhand embarrassment. This truly was a ride exactly reminiscent of every kdrama I've ever watched, and I've never been happier while reading a book. Literally the only thing I could have asked for is an Asian love interest, rather than the white guy. But that is fine. Her choices were crazy throughout the entire book but I accepted all of that buffoonery as well, because as Goo says, all truly is fair in love and kdrama. What a lovely story.
