so very cute :))

Cute but ridiculous at the same time.

OMG SO CUTE

SO GOOD. This is a super cute and funny YA romance that I just couldn't put down. I want more of Desi and Appah! The romance never goes farther than kissing and the language is clean, making this a great choice for middle schoolers who want to read YA or teens who are looking for a funny, gentle romance.

Can I just saw I love fluffy contemporaries that don't emotionally scar me?? Like, this book was so cute and fun and light anD THANK GOODNESS. My feelings have been played with too many times during 2017 and this was a great book to close out the year.

This was an addicting read that had me laughing out loud and swooning for Luca Drakos. Like. OHMYGOSH HE'S SO CUTE.

Plot
No one's been really talking about this book and I'm really sad about it. Basically, this story follows Desi Lee, a girl who has a plan for everything in order to have a super successful life. She's basically perfect: perfect grades, perfect athlete, perfect extracurriculars, perfect everything. Her over-perfectness is balanced out with her terrible luck with love. The girl just can't seem to catch a break. Whenever she has a crush, she messes up hugely. Then, a really really cute guy comes to her school and she's determined to not mess up this time. She turns to her dad's beloved K dramas as a guide to get the guy.

My Feelings
Okay, so there were a lot of things that I loved about this book and a ton of things that I was iffy on.

Likes: The characters in this were amazing. They were also distinct and *wait for it* DIVERSE. Y'ALL. SO MUCH DIVERSITY. And the Korean rep was awesome! The banter between Desi and her best friends was so funny.

I also loved the romance aspects when *spoilers* Desi gets together with Luca. IT WAS JUST SO CUTE. MY HEART CAN'T TAKE IT. THEY WERE SO BEAUTIFUL. AGGGGGH.

description

The writing was fast-paced and heartwarming to read. I often found myself grinning as I read about the antics Desi faced.

Dislikes: I have two main things that I didn't like in the book: 1) there was some girl-on-girl hate and 2) some of the things Desi did was not okay, like, at all.

We meet this one girl that just absolutely hates Desi with a passion with a reason that's not very good. Demi also hates Luca's ex and I don't know if it's just me but his ex was written in such a weird way. She isn't written with as much depth as I wish she had and she's just kind of like the stereotypical pretentious white girl. I think more development with her (the ex) and Luca's relationship would've been appreciated.

And Desi does some absolutely crazy things to get Luca to like her. Like, full-on psycho crazy. *spoiler ahead*
SpoilerShe causes his car accident??? She causes him drowning??? She pretends to do so many things??? She manipulates him???
*end spoiler* I love Desi but sometimes she goes a little bit too crazy for my taste and probably everyone else's.

Nevertheless, I still really enjoyed this book and it was still super cute so 4 stars for this one!!

Rating
When I started this story I thought it would be a five star read but because of the problems I had, I had to knock it down a star.

This book was still a really fun read that reminded me a lot of [To All the Boys I've Loved Before]. There aren't that many similarities between the actual story but the main character is Korean American and the main guy is SUPER cute. Not as cute as Peter K tho. *swoons* I was rereading some of the cute parts from this book and now I need to go read about Peter and Lara Jean again. The writing for the books are also quite similar but they are a bit more distinct. Lara Jean has a more childish voice compared to Desi Lee but that has nothing to do with the authors but more-so because of the characters. Desi is very in-control and mature.

In conclusion, this book was amazing and I recommend it to anyone who is CRAVING fun, light-hearted contemporary!

Rating: 3.5
+.5 for Korean representation.
Desi is CRAZY.

Maurene Goo makes writing charming and relatable and cute look easy. This freaking adorable, breezily sweet book makes me want to go bingewatch K dramas, which I’ve never seen at all. It makes me want to drive along the beach with the windows open, bopping to Taylor Swift. It makes me want to fall in love (hopefully with someone less.... edgy~~ than Luca, but hey, I’m not actually 17 anymore). What more can you ask for from a romcom?

After reading, and loving, The Way You Make Me Feel earlier in the year I knew that I needed to read I Believe in a Thing Called Love and my goodness am I glad that I did. It’s a well written and adorable contemporary full of memorable characters and wonderful relationships. It’s been a while since I read this one but I found my list of pros and cons for it so we’ll just go through it and talk about everything point by point!

First we’ll deal with the pros, these are all fairly straightforward but honestly I’m pretty easy to please when it comes to contemporaries so hey.

VERY CUTE. That’s literally just the first point on my list, and it’s underlined 4 times with about 8 exclamation points. But seriously, this book was absolutely adorable, I loved all the characters and all the relationships (both romantic and platonic and familial) and ugh. This book is just so cute and sweet and worth it.
Easy to read. You know how sometimes you read a contemporary and it just kind of drag? This is not one of those books. I just flew through this entire thing, it was so well written and I was so invested in these lovely little idiots that it was almost impossible to put down.
Amazing characters. I loved all of them! Desi was such a wonderful main character, she’s just so enthusiastic and genuine and sweet and caring and fun and I just want her to have all the best and most wonderful things in life. I also loved her friends, even though I have definitely forgotten their names (this is why we write reviews right after finishing a book and not a month and 10 books later Dee) I also loved Luca, he was a mystery but not a bad one, just a really sweet little nugget. I totally understand his thoughts and feelings throughout the book and I also just want him to be happy. And Desis’ dad! Oh he was so great, and his relationship with his daughter was truly lovely to read.
Just really great. This is another point that I actually wrote. It’s just a really great book and I love it so much. So so much.
And now for the list of cons.

Nothing. This is the actually point that I have in my actual list of cons. This book is so perfect to me that there’s nothing wrong with it at all.
So there we go, this book is perfect and I love it so much and I will read every single release from this author from here on out. If you’re interested in a super cute contemporary then please read this one, and then come tell me how much you loved it because I’m always here to gush about cute books.

I am a bit conflicted because a lot of me is saying to rate this 1,5 stars.

The only thing I liked about this book was Desi her dad. All the other things were just not ok in my eyes.

Desi is honestly just a manipulative stalker and nothing can excuse that. She did some dangerous things multiple times and she constantly got away with it? Big no. And also, why even write about doing such dangerous things to get a boy?

I just think this book had a lot of potential but in the end it was not for me at all.

For anyone obsessed with Korean dramas...
