This is the perfect little chaser if you've already seen To All the Boys I've Loved Before or watched Boys Over Flowers/Hana Yori Dango or just happen to be hankering after a sweet, HEA contemporary rom-com with a bit of Korean flavor.
Wherein the girl manages to literally lose her pants when she first meets the boy. And later shows him how to kick up ramen a notch with boiled eggs and kimchi.
And also happens to be an uber-nerd type A personality who ends up studying Korean dramas and makes a step by step plan to seduce the boy based on the tried-and-true drama tropes.
Hijinks ensue. But also a bit of medium depth emotion about what it must feel like as a teenager on the cusp of graduation high school and handling parent expectations (either trying to be perfect so as not to upset father or going around doing borderline illegal things because of father issues).
This was just wonderful, escapist reading. Definitely sweet. A bit of kissing, and that's as far as it goes. Fine for mid or lower YA as well.

I am not a BIG Korean drama fan, but there are times when I just enjoy their cute rom-coms. Weightlifting Fairy, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, Legend of the Blue Sea, and Mischievous Kiss are my top favorites. Anyway, I admit that I wasn't so sure if I would like this book at first but after I read about Desi's antics, I could see the appeal.
This was a typical YA romance novel, predictable and sweet. Nothing extraordinary about it, but I enjoyed it very much. I would definitely recommend this to my rom-com loving friends.

It was cute enough, I LOVED the kdrama and actor references. I never got into American TV so actually knowing who the celebrities mentioned are was quite refreshing. And there was a drama guide in the back!!!!
The only thing for me was that I really didn't care about the male lead so it was kinda hard to ship them.

I love love this book so much!!! I laughed so much because the lead character, Desi is such dork and so wacky!! I dont watch K-Drama but I know some of shows, thanks to my friends, that makes me understand some references. Would recommend to all of you K-Drama fans because you wouldn't just laugh at Desi wackiness, but also al these things she get from the dramas and the characters from it that you already know!

Desi could be quite frustrating and stupid at times, but Luca !!!
Also I loved the list Desi made, it is such an accurate depiction of romance kdramas

I couldn't do it. The voice acting was bad. The senior is drooling over a freshman. Main character thinks they're so so important.
English Review below.
This is the story of Desi, the girl who excels in everything but love, the girl who is bound to go to Stanford but can't even master the courage to talk to guys. In her senior year of high school, Desi decides to make use of "Kdrama formulas" to make a list of steps that are sure to land her her first boyfriend, and the list works out perfectly like expected, until it doesn't.
Some of her actions were questionable, but they were addressed. Also some character development was almost immediate, so it was a bit jarring. The love interest, Luca, felt more of a reflection of what Desi thought of him and didn't have enough depth to him. But overall, it was a fun, fluffy read, suitable for Kdramas, and as any kdrama, I loved her father and her friends. Desi herself felt very much like a kdrama heroine, so that really rang true, and whenever she referenced a kdrama I watched or an actor I'm crushing on, I would smile. Also loving the code name "Won Bin", because he really is one of the hottest actors. :D
The book also includes at the end a nice kdrama recommendations section, and I'm happy to say that I watched a lot of them.

Was this an over-the-top, hilarious and amazing contemporary?
Yes, yes, 100% yes.
Just my kind of book, to say it as simple as that. If you need a funny, tad bit unrealistic and cute book, look no further. This will put you in a good mood for days.
I loved the concept of this story. A girl following steps taken from Korean dramas to capture the heart of a boy? Sign me up. I have never watched Korean dramas before, but knew it would be fun. From dropping pants to 7 minutes in heaven.. It was definitely a good read. The characters were amazing, the setting spectacular and the writing fit the story perfectly. When it comes to characters, Desi’s father was definitely one of my favorites.
When it comes to the romance, it is one of those things that you don’t quite know how to feel about. On one side, Desi is planning everything out, almost to the point of putting lives in danger to complete her list, but on the other side you can’t help but falling in love with the chemistry between Luca and Desi, and understand where she might be coming from. You can see the struggle.
One thing that definitely describes this book, is over-the-top. Especially in the beginning it feels quite unrealistic and overexagerated. That is something to be a bit wary of, as some might not enjoy that too much. For me, it just added on to the enjoyment. This book would not be as good if it took itself too serious all of the time. It made the book more of a comedy, which I personally loved. I definitely think this could be an amazing movie.
If you love hilarious, cute and adorable contemporaries, definitely pick this up in the near future, you will not regret it.

“Real love: It was all about risk and having faith. There were no guarantees.”
A book that's all about K-dramas? Obviously I had to read this, and I'm really happy to say that it was beyond adorable, with just enough turmoil to pull at anyone's heartstrings. Plus I got a bunch of new series to look forward to watching in the future.
I actually really liked Desi too. She obviously does some crazy stuff in this story, but she's 100% aware that it's weird, and she even ends up paying for it in the end. The male lead, Luca, had me on the fence about his character at first, but as time went on he just became more and more sweet and endearing. My heart really went out to him and the stuff he went through.
After reading this, I'm really excited to pick up more by Maurene Goo (especially her newest book about K-pop!).
