A Kingdom of Venom and Vows

I’m still really into the story—it's engaging, the romance is spicy, and the plot is moving along nicely. The biggest drawback, though, is how repetitive some of the dialogue has become. It doesn’t ruin the experience, but it does stand out. Not quite a 4-star read, but definitely close.

Favorite Quotes:

“There was venom in his kiss, and I drank it like wine.”

“Our vows were written in blood, and I would bleed for him again.”

Still, I’d absolutely recommend it. The story holds strong, and I’m excited to see how it all wraps up.

Now this is what I’m talking about! I am unashamedly a sucker for reuniting lovers, like when Feyre and Rhys reunited after she went back to the Spring Court, and here when Adara is reunited with Evren after being taken by his brother. That trope gets me EVERY time and automatically makes a book better for me. I loved getting more of an insight to Evren’s thoughts and also seeing a developing relationship between Thalia and Sorin. My reason for 4 stars?

Overall, the story was engaging and continued to build on the dynamic between Evren, Gavril, and Adara with some genuinely thrilling moments. The ending was expected but left me eager to dive into the final book. Thalia and Sorin  experience significant character development, and their storyline begins to take shape and  set the stage for the next book.

That said, the book did have some repetitive moments, and the constant spice somewhat dulled its thrill over time. A few plot threads felt unresolved, such as Adara’s relationship with her father, the king’s unexplained absence, and certain character deaths that didnt feel like they made sense.

Still, if you’ve read the first two books, it’s absolutely worth continuing. The overarching plot begins to pay off, delivering the kind of momentum and payoff fans have been waiting for.

Review: A Kingdom or Venom and Vows by Holly Renee
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have absolutely loved reading this series. Book three finally ends on a positive although there is still so much more to the story and it makes my heart happy that there is a book 4. It was so nice to feel like my heart wasn’t about to break at the end of one of Holly’s books!

There were a few memorable moments for me with this book and surprisingly it wasn’t from the main characters. The multiple POVs of this worked so well and I loved finding out about parts of the story from other perspectives. I loved following Sorin and Thalia’s story but my heart hurt for Jorah so much.

This honestly this was a 2.5 star for me. The book started off okay enough and was at least engaging in the beginning but it's strange how in such a short book almost nothing seemingly happened. There were a lot of opportunities to explore different plot points of this book, like Adaras relationship with her dad, Evrens relationship with his father, the traum Adara might have suffered while with Gavril but it wasn't. The spice was repetitive and I skimmed through a lot of it. Really nothing happens in this book until the last 10% maybe and it was over even faster.

I am sure a lot of people will enjoy this book but it personally just wasn't for me.

While this book has some plot holes, and is a mess of character development, repetition, I will say I knew what I was getting into when I read this one, so I have to say I had a good time. Is this the best piece of literature out there, no, no it’s not. The series had potential but the plot was sacrificed in exchange for sex scenes every time the characters spent time together. We actually rarely see Evren and Adara spend any time together alone that’s not sex, but alas, I enjoyed the ride. I was also curious how the story would be continued to a fourth book, but found out that their storyline with the fates ended in book 3.

If I’m not looking through this book for enjoyment, I have so many questions on plots that just disappeared. The prophecy was barely even mentioned in book 3, and having a prophecy be based on another man not killing his mate is so so weird. There is so much missing and the prophecy plot line could have been written better and be more serious but in the end, the prophecy could just be “fated love will protect a kingdom, to the cost of a starblessed’s life” and that would have accurately discussed the plot so much better. Also the death magic ended up being not much but the end, Gavril’s magic seemed weak with how strong is was supposed to be.

Overall, I mostly loved the characters of this series enough to continue with the fourth book, but I fully understand how someone could hate this book, and I can also see how someone might just find it entertaining like me.

3 ⭐ Even though I really enjoyed it I thought some parts were a bit repetitive. However it was a good wrap on Adara and Evren's story.
