This book was the worst in a very mediocre series. The writing was in need of a good editor, producing such gems as “The streets were filled with people bustling through the street”. The plot and characterization was very weak. A large quantity of the book was very repetitive sex scenes. The characters are one-note and lack depth or complexity. The plot does not deliver. They pay off for what the characters go through and strive for falls flat and feels anti-climactic.
I pushed through, but it took real effort to finish this one. I won’t be reading the fourth.

Have you ever read a series and just could not put it down until you finished it? This is absolutely one of those series. I ditched all my other books to binge this series and I have absolutely no regrets.

This book picks up from the cliffhanger ending of book two. Adara and Evren continue on their quest to free themselves from his brother.

This book moves at a quicker pace and includes more spicy scenes than the previous two. I felt like it wrapped up their love story well. I do hope book four continues to expand upon the overarching plot points that weren’t fully resolved at the conclusion of this book.

I loved this series and will absolutely be exploring more of Holly's backlog of books.

Adara bargained for the life of her mate and is now once again trapped with the prince who wants nothing more than to take her power as his own. A power that is now safely inside her mate and he will stop at nothing to see her returned to him. Will fate save the kingdoms? Let’s find out.

Read if you like: fantasy romance, high fantasy, fast-paced reads, plot driven, spicy spice, fae, vampires, the chosen one, betrothal, in love with the wrong boy, change your fate, prophecies, magic, a mouthy bad boy with lots of secrets, and a girl thrust into a dangerous world armed with lies and a dagger.

Adara is a powerless prisoner in the kingdom she fled to gain her freedom. Caught in a gilded cage, will she be forced to join with the prince Gavril before she can find a way out? His brother, Evren, her mate and true love holds Adara’s power. He will stop at nothing to save her. As they race to fulfill the prophecy, who will fate favor? And will any kingdom be left standing?

A Kingdom of Venom and Vows is the final installment of the Stars and Shadows trilogy. We get another fast-paced fantasy adventure filled with spice and defying fate. The second book left us with new answers, new questions, and new problems. But the fae kingdom, Citlali, is still terrible, the Blood Kingdom is still misunderstood, and Adara is still stuck between them and their half-brother princes. Everyone is desperate for the prophecy to be fulfilled in their favor. Gavril is using a dangerous and forbidden power that forces everyone change their plans. Evern is supercharged with Adara’s power and he knows he has to use this to his advantage and reach Adara before anything can happen to her or the prophecy. But the solution might not be what anyone suspects.

Stars and Shadows 3 hit all the right notes but was often rushed and predictable which left everything feeling flat. A lot of new information was thrown at us repeatedly to make it feel cohesive but ended up being forced. The spice, while good, was most of the middle of the book and didn’t move the plot along. It was just there to be there. We also get a door left open for a spinoff with our side characters. But even these moments mostly felt pasted in to keep the world open and workable for the future. Overall, there were lots of fun moments in book 3, but the hurried pace made it hard for me to feel invested with the characters.

Thank you to Holly Renee for an ARC for review.
