I have never read the lumber janes comics but I really enjoyed this novelization. I felt like there was enough backstory that made this story easy to follow. I loved all the various girls that became the focus of this story. I loved how this book really was so well crafted with both contemporary elements and also fantasy elements as well. I really loved the relationship between all the girls and also the mystery and adventure that they went through in this novel. I felt like it also not only was super fun but also taught the young readers various things. I will def be checking out book two in this novelization when it comes out.

The graphic novels are wonderful & I love them. This novel attempts to continue to tell stories about the Lumberjanes in the same whimsical manner, but it just falls a bit flat. Instead of playful, it comes across a bit more juvenile. It just didn't capture my interest like the graphic novels. I'll encourage the girls to read them, but I think I'll skip the others in this series.

The Lumberjanes discover a herd of unicorns grazing next to a gigantic mountain, the top of which cannot be seen. April is adamant about conquering it so she can earn a badge, but she & the rest of the Lumberjanes neglect to read the weathered signs that warn of danger. The mountain disappears, stranding the group above the clouds.

"...Ripley, shooting up into the air and pointing over April's shoulder, screamed probably one of the top ten words a person can possibly scream.

UNICORN!!!!"

A lovely companion story for fans of the comic, but works well for people new to Lumberjanes, too! Tamaki's writing style is well-suited for middle grade readers and does a solid job of introducing the characters to anyone who hasn't read the comics. The jokes were fluffy and made me giggle, and the entire book is light-hearted while still being an engaging read. I absolutely loved this!

The Roanoke Cabin is at it again! As our favorite Lumberjanes are finishing up the latest badge they come across a herd of unicorns....and the tallest mountain any of them ever seen. April knows that they HAVE to climb to the very top so they can be the BEST Lumberjanes.

Team, I LOVE The Lumberjanes and I have to tell you I was pretty bored. I'm not sure if it was the format change or if the story itself was just lackluster. There was a little kernel of something in April's character arc, but it failed to hit home for me. Will recommend to those kids who just can't enough of the Lumberjanes and have already read the comics 10 times.

As a big fan of the comics, I found this book really delightful. Like in the original series, they really throw you right into the story, which some kids might love and others might find confusing. I loved the additional illustrations--the design of this book is absolutely wonderful. I really hope this engages new readers!

A nice quick read! Started and finished this in a day. I loved the characters as always and the story was interesting. Maybe because I'm used to these characters and stories written in graphic novel format, this felt a little drawn out and like lots of bits were added just to take up space and make it longer but it was still good.

One thing I wasn't so comfortable with was the Cloudies being referred to as "it"s, especially as the illustrations seemed to imply they had dark skin. I don't see why they couldn't have just been given they/them pronouns like Barney uses. It seemed very dehumanizing, whether these characters were intended to be human or not, they were certainly human-esque. They were really cute otherwise though. Fun book! Will continue to work my way through this series. :)

This Lumberjanes novel was such a delight to read. The prose was laugh-out-loud funny, and the conflict was light but not frivolous. The short chapters made it a perfect bedtime read.

This is a charming addition to the Lumberjanes canon. From a Reader's Advisory perspective, this is a great one for those Tween readers who prefer graphic novels and whose parents want them reading "real books." It's got all the charm and adventure and friendship that you'd expect from a Lumberjanes comic in a longer prose format, with a few Brooke Allen illustrations throughout.

The events of this novel do take place after the first five or six graphic novels, so some familiarity with the characters and story is nice, but not totally necessary.
