It was enjoyable, with some cringe worthy moments, but I don't think that I'll be continuing the series.

Okay, look.....I love the narrator of the audiobook. Just that made this a great book to listen to while working on other tasks, and the sometimes uninspired and vapid plot made it so I didn't have to pay TOO close attention. That said, I of course prefer books that GRAB my attention. This was....fine. Typical fantasy stuff, not much new, worldbuilding seemed like it might go interesting places if given the chance, but wasn't there yet, and there are sequels for that. I might read them.

I also cannot really avoid pointing out the....oddly prevalent topic of womanizing in the novel? I get it: some people think that way, and often I can ignore that and just get on with reading the rest of the book for what it is. But, having just stopped halfway through a different book for disgusting sex and race supremacism that got to be wayyy too much to bear, I can't really fail to comment on it here. Sure, maybe I'm just more sensitive at the moment after having to put down an otherwise interesting book for it, but sometimes people come into reading books when they are at a point in their lives that makes the book subjectively less enjoyable. Even so: For those who might read, know that if you normally ignore such things, this book kind of keeps slowly ramping it up, and though I don't think it ever becomes actually sexist as opposed to just, well, whatever [definitions - supposed to be objective, actually subjective, yada yada], just know that the author seems to have a thing for commenting on the thoughts of horny men who think about women a fair bit, but aren't disrespectful to them so much as....well, one-track when it comes to women. Personally I think it gives men a bad name, but if it floats your boat or turns you on a bit, well, go to. But if not: just know that no, it does not lessen as the book moves forward.

DNF'ed at 15%.

Maybe 13% of that is information dumps of one kind or the other.

An amazing start to an amazing series.

The story is good alone, but the world building and lore that has gone into this is truly of epic proportions. That is what takes this saga to the next level for me.

It's both funny and serious in all the right places. I loved the main character. I hope this series runs for a long time to a satisfying conclusion.

overall decent characters, some development, and good enough world building. will be fun to meander through the series when a break is needed.
