I loved this one for several reasons. It's fantastic to show that solving a problem can take multiple efforts and you can learn from each try even if it hasn't completely solved the problem. This would be great for teaching the growth mindset. It's also fabulous to see a young person excelling at something so tough.

When I was a child we would go to the coast and climb or boulder on the rocks and cliffs. A few months ago I started working out in a climbing gym and even took a few classes. It's fun that I can share that sport with students with this text.

How to solve a problem is a lesson in rock climbing and also in dusting yourself off and trying again. I loved the tenacity in this book and Ashima's approach to problems.

The illustrations are gorgeous, I just struggle to see how a kid would relate to this if they aren't already into climbing and know who Ashima is

A wonderful picture book memoir intended for ages 4 to 8. Ashima writes an excellent story about her perseverance in defeating a climb that is presented as a metaphor for all problem-solving. She can add gifted to children's author to her CV alongside world-champion rock climber now.

This is such a fantastic book! The first page starts, “I am Ashima. What I do is climb. What I do is solve problems, which is to say, I make them mine.” I love that idea of making problems ours! This is the story of a young female rock climber. Ashima is the first female climber to ever climb a V15 (high degree of difficulty) boulder! The book follows Ashima as she begins climbing with the support of her dad, she tackles more and more difficult climbing problems. I love how the author talks through her process of analyzing each boulder. The book also shows some falls, but Ashima doesn’t let that stop her. She keeps trying. I found her story so inspiring and learned so much about rock-climbing. The illustrations are fantastic and add so much to Ashima’s story! Seeing her thought process not only in words but in the illustrations really brought this story to life! I highly recommend this book!

Love, love, love. This is a great book about tackling problems and never giving up. Wrapped up in a personal story about rock climbing, it's really a good blueprint for solving problems and has a really great way of looking at falls and failures - pick yourself back up and look at the new information you learned from that fall. This would be a great classroom read aloud or a great book to share with anyone with problems (which is all of us, yeah?).
