Glad I didn’t read this as a teenager - it makes out that being a teenager means you must drink and party and sneak out and kiss people, otherwise you aren’t experiencing life. I kept waiting for it to be a cautionary tale, but it glorified it more than anything. Also three queer kids going to Chik-Fil-A? I guess it IS in Georgia, but come on!

Your typical summer break high school romance, only with queer kids, which I respect. It nails the feeling of the introverted queer teens that drift to each other and become friends. The supporting cast was fun and diverse, but not good enough to distract from the main character and her love interest, two characters blander than unbuttered toast.
If you don't enjoy the miscommunication trope, don't read this. Seriously. All romcoms have this part near the end where the main character and her best friends fight and it's all uncomfortable till they resolve it. In this book, it's like that trope is the whole entire book. Everyone was a terrible friend from beginning to end. I didn't like that.

I'm writing this review at 2 am, straight after finishing it, and I think it shows. Anyway, a generous 3 stars from me.

This was my first contemporary in a while. And it felt like of meh. There were some cute parts in the book but other than that I felt like my eyes were just glazing the pages (I read it via eBook)

this was an average reading experience. i didn't connect with the characters, and the only thing i was invested in was codi and ricky's friendship. it does have a hopeful, inspiring ending to it, but it just felt too happy-ever-after-esque. everything miraculously working out in the end didn't really make it realistic, in my opinion. the characters also felt two-dimensional including the main character, codi.

I think I’m going to stop giving star ratings to YA books (unless they are truly terrible) because they simply are not written for me. The writing was good and I just know I would’ve eaten this up as a teenager. I love friendship.

I am not going to lie, I got annoyed throughout this book because of the various characters actions; especially the main character, Codi. However, I think that's what I like most about this book. The characters feel realistic in the way that they can be great one day and insufferable the next. I felt like I was reading about actual teenagers and not what an adult thinks teenagers would do. I related a lot to Codi, in the sense that I am the quiet artistic type (mainly to people that don't know me) and her issues with her younger brother. It was interesting to see her journey throughout the book with herself, her sexuality, and her friends. There were also multiple instances of problems queer people face in their day-to-day life that I appreciated. The ending was very satisfying to me, which I think helped me to rate this book a 5 star. Miss Quindlen has done it again, I can't wait to read "Her Name In The Sky"!
