I never thought you could have your heart broken by a book but mine did. Without giving anything away, you will cry and kick and get mad at this book but in the end all is good. It's on my top 10 favorite books!!!!

Very predictable

Sorry, but I seriously couldn't sit through this book. I mean not only did she cheat on her boyfriend (who she loves, or claims to) she also didn't have the courage to own up to her mistakes.
The problem with being grown up in a stifling environment, where you can barely walk is when you're free to run? You don't know when to stop and breathe.
Not my kind of book.
Two stars.

This was nearly a DNF but I kept hoping it would get better so kept pushing on.
It was like a mash up of [b:Beautiful Disaster|11505797|Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful, #1)|Jamie McGuire|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1327212014s/11505797.jpg|16441531] and [b:Thoughtless|9436924|Thoughtless (Thoughtless, #1)|S.C. Stephens|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1299362815s/9436924.jpg|14321512] but not nearly as good as either IMO.
There were a lot of editing issue's, it was quite long winded in spots and really important scene's were rushed. Also the MC's changing of tenses mid sentence was annoying & distracting.
The last 30% or so was more or less skimmed cause my OCD made me finish it when I had got that far.

Holy cow what a roller coaster ride that was! ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS I loved it! Wish I could rate it more than 5 stars. For sure one of my fave books of the entire year!

Super cheesy and so not believable.

I can finally say I survived Taking Chances!!!

Oh. My. God. This book was something.

I don't even know where to start.

When I first started reading Taking Chances I thought it has the potential to be rated with 5 Stars. It had everything I like/love in a book: A love triangle. Hot guys. Steamy situations. Drama. An unpredictable ending (not so common with love triangles, where you can always see more or less wich one she is going to choose).

In the first chapter I already loved Harper, our heroine. After spending all her life living with Sir, her father, in a military base full of young male sargeants, she goes to college to live on her own trying to figure out who she is outside that world. Enter Chase, the first hottie. The typical tattoed bad boy who sleeps with everything wearing a skirt. He is also Bree's brother, being Bree Harper's roommate and best friend. And of course there is an inevitable instant attraction between them. But Harper saw trouble from the first moment she put her eyes on him. Then she meets Brandon, hottie number two, and he is everything she wants and need. Since the exact moment he came to scene I was Team Brandon. Little did I knew...

Like I said, I started liking Harper right away, but by the end of the book I had a deep admiration for her character. Sometimes she got into my nerves, sometimes she made me feel sorry for her, sometimes she made me feel happy for her... She was that awesome.

Reading this was a rollercoater of emotions, one moment you are happy, the next you are sad, then you say 'finally!' then you say 'no way'. You can clearly see that if you go to my status.

I think the author did an amazing job writting this story, because in love triangles I usually can't help but hate the main character a little bit when she chooses the 'wrong' guy or makes some wrong decisions. It happened to me with Harper too, but then as you keep reading you realize how she deals with the consecuences of her actions, the way she thinks about everything she does or did in the past and then you can see a process where she clearly matures as a person, even if she's only 19.

Brandon was perfect. I loved him. All of him. He was my favorite, he was so considerate and caring with Harper during the whole book, everything he did got me all jealous of her and wishing I had a guy like him in my life. Sometimes I couldn't believe he could be that wonderful and genuine, but then again, he is a fictional character haha.

At some point I was really confused about wich one I'd like Harper to end up with. I was like 'Brandonnnn!!!!!' Then Chase did something cute and sweet and I was like 'okay Chase is the one'. So yeah I loved Chase too.

And then it happened.

Before picking 'Taking Chances' I read a lot of reviews here and the common factor between all of them was some event that happens during the 50-60% of the book. Every 50 pages or so I'd go all cautious (and honesty, a bit scared lol) thinking 'maybe it's this...' 'ohh so it was that...'. I was wrong. When I read 'the event' I couldn't believe what was happening.
Spoiler I still can't!! Come on the author killed Chase! Like... she made me love Chase even if my favorite was Brandon all the time... and then she killed him! I got so mad at that moment I thought about stopping reading. In fact, I did, for a couple of hours xD
. That marked a before and after for me in the story.

There are a lot of twists, I lost track at some point, but after that it took me so long to finish the book. Don't get me wrong, I liked every step on the story, the way it was written, the sexy scenes, the happy moments... but from 60% or so it was like a lot of things happened and it started a long time ago.

Even in the 'epilogue' I felt like too much happened in two and a half years. That's one of the reasons why I'm givig 'Taking Chances' just 3.5 stars.

But it was an amazing read and I totally recommend this book. It's really complete and the writing is great.

Loved the first half of this book up to the heart break moment half way in. The second half felt like it should be a different book, but I still enjoyed it, just not as much as the first half. Found a few things toward the end of the book difficult to understand how certain characters could just deal with stuff, but all in all a very good read.

This is a tough book to review for me. I loved the beginning, all the teenage angst and chemistry between chase, harper and brandon, I couldn't put this book down for a minute. But then half way through, it completely changes. As everyone else has said, it is a very disappointing and shocking turn of events that Chase dies, but then the rest of the book seems a bit unrealistic to me. The fact that she just jumps back to Brandon, the fact that the family is so accepting of everything that has happened, and that nobody blames her for anything, and most of all, how perfect and saintly Brandon is through all of it. He just takes her back and is a perfect (almost) boyfriend to her after all she has put him through... that is not real. And to top it all off, these are just kids! 18-22 years old and the rest of their lives are decided for them by their choosing to have babies at 18? What about finishing college? What about making something of your self first and then having a family? Or at least both? At least it can be used as a deterrent for kids these age, saying, "don't have unprotected sex because you will get pregnant!"

So there is my mixed feelings review. A bit disappointed after such a strong start.
