Seriously?! Seriously?! There is so much wrong with this book, I don't know where to begin. In one word... Heartbreaking- and not in that good, ugly/but happy cry, this was more what in the heck, how in the world, why why why cry! Ugh. Just... Ugh.

Well. Then.

This isn't so much a "review", per se, as it is a rant. Just FYI.

I regret that I did not read any reviews prior to reading this. I never like to go in blind... with books or movies, but I thought I'd seen this book on enough shelves that I had a general idea, which I did, with the exception of one really big part which, I must disclosed, occurred at the 59% part, which is also where I did--full disclosure--DNF. I don't like those kind of surprises. Came out of nowhere, and was a sh!tty, sh!tty draw, for sure. P1ssed me off.

Meanwhile, fcking "Princess" just goes on, being her Princessy self. Literally, I despised the heroine. In so many ways. And not because she was "in love" with two men at the same time. That's actually far more acceptable to me than anything else about this book. Most unrealistic and unacceptable to me was her being so perfect, and so wonderful, and so smart, and so beautiful, and every, single, person--on our planet and others--loooove her soooo much. They choose to cater to her over their own family, ffs! She's ridiculous. She's not fcking perfect. She's a gddmn moron! It was awful.

And then... at 59%... *smh* ... Unh-unh. ...*lip curled in distaste* ... Nope. I ain't doin' it. *shut my Kindle* Will find another read tomorrow. I'm out.

Four months later and I'm still upset. I don't think I can ever review this one properly because of the strong feelings I have with it. Let's just say I was a 6 star review up until about 60% in. Then i wanted to claw my own face off.

Too much "tell" and not enough "show"

I should start this off by saying that love triangles aren't usually my jam, but my best friend gave me this book to read for our bookclub so I happily read it and let me tell you...

I have never, ever read a book that annoyed me more than this one. If I had to read one more time about how tiny her frame was and how she cursed said tiny frame every other damn page, I was going to drive to my best friends house and curse HER for making me read this book.

Let me start off by stating the things I actually really liked about this book. I thought the original story line was actually pretty interesting. While love triangles aren't usually my thing, I was definitely intrigued in the first half of the book and was excited to see where it was going to go and who Harper was going to choose. I also enjoyed a few of the characters and their dialogue back and forth. Key word being, SOME. But as for things I liked, that was about it.

Now to get into the things that had me texting my best friend asking why the hell she made me read this book lmao...

This book starts off following 18 year old Harper, a girl who was raised by her father, a Marine, who was very strict and basically never let her leave the house unless it was to hang out around the other Marines on base. She decides to go to college across the country to experience life and find herself. I actually liked Harper at first and I was excited to see her character develop and see all of the things she was going to experience for the first time. However, that didn't last long. Harper is easily one of the most annoying female main characters I've ever read. Everything she does is perfect and everyone thinks she's perfect and I, for the life of me, can't seem to figure out why. I didn't feel like there was anything that special about her.

She moves into her dorm and meets her roommate Bree and Bree invites her to a party at her brother Chase's house. I was interested to see how she would act in a party setting considering she had never really been to one before. After one shopping spree and five seconds of Bree telling her how to do makeup, Harper is now a pro and ready to go. They get to the party and she meets Chase, your typical player alpha asshole who thinks every woman will just fawn all over him. His character didn't bother me, I read a lot of books with characters like this, what bothered me was how possessive he got over Harper after like five seconds of being in her presence because as everyone in this book apparently thinks, Harper is perfect and can do no wrong and there's just something about her that draws you in. I'd love to know what that is, but this book was a lot of tell and not enough show. We were told about the tension between her and Chase many times, but only showed a couple times. I would've loved to have read the actual tension more to really get into the story.

Then she meets Brandon. Sweet sweet Brandon. I loved him and he was absolutely too good for her. They start dating officially shortly after they meet and she is head over heels for him immediately even though she can't help these feelings and the pull she has with Chase. They're dating for about a month I believe when Brandon is out of town and she's at Bree and Chases family's home. (I still find it weird that she calls their parents mom and dad after like one week of knowing them, but maybe that's just a me problem.) Chase ends up being there too and Harper ends up cheating on Brandon with Chase, twice, and even though she's a virgin, she of course is amazing in bed and doesn't seem to care about protection because who cares about that when you're just soooo in love with the boy you've known for a month!?

Brandon comes back and at first, Harper doesn't tell him because she feels guilty and doesn't want to hurt him. Well babes, you should've thought about that before you had sex with his housemate! Pretty much the only reason she tells Brandon is because she ends up being pregnant and doesn't really have a choice. Now, this would've been a great time to give Brandon some more depth, make him stand up for himself and make Harper grovel and apologize more and really earn his trust back even if they only end up being friends. But he, of course, thinks Harper is absolute perfection and is so sweet and tries to be her friend shortly after without really having much time to deal with any of it. Now don't get me wrong, I love me a good simp, but not so much to the point that when it is blatantly obvious that the main character is in the wrong, you just bend to their will and apologize to them even though what happened was their fault.

Harper eventually decides to give it a shot with Chase, even though every other damn page she talks about how much she loves Brandon and how he's the love of her life and she can't imagine life without him. To me, it really cheapens what she had with Chase to keep reiterating how Brandon was the love of her life. It made it feel like she was only with Chase because of the baby and not because she truly wanted to give it a shot with him.

They're doing well and their relationship is actually very cute. Seeing Chase develop into a more mature man and be excited to have a baby was great to read and I loved his arc... Until the author killed him off suddenly breaking my fucking heart. That actually made me tear up because I was starting to love Chase a lot, even though I loved Brandons character as well. I was almost able to understand Harpers dilemma, ALMOST. The death felt like a cop out and just a way to make it easier for Harper to choose who she really wanted (even though we all knew it was Brandon because she never stopped saying he was the love of her life and would marry him if he asked her). Instead of making Harper grow up and make an adult decision and deal with the consequences of her own actions, Chase dies and like a week after his death Chases parents and sister are already telling Harper that if she wants to be with Brandon that they approve... I'm sorry... What? What family loses their son and barely a week later is encouraging the girl they see as a daughter to go back to her ex? It felt like no one truly mourned Chase and just used the "this is what he would've wanted" card too much.

Then two months, TWO MONTHS, after getting back with Brandon, they get married and both families are all smiles and happy as if that's not some messed up shit. Then Harper ends up pregnant almost a year later and for some reason, has her first child refer to Chase as "uncle Chase" when they visit his grave, like what??? The absolute disrespect to Chase and his memory in that moment was appalling to me. I understand Brandons child maybe calling him, but why on earth would you have Chase's actual child call him that?

Overall, the original story in the first half was decent and I would've enjoyed it more if Harper wasn't so damn annoying and if everyone didn't fawn all over her and act like she was literal perfection. Once Chase died, it went very downhill for me. It became majority tell and not nearly enough show. It would've been nice to read more about the connection she had with Brandon after Chase died instead of them just saying I love you every five sentences. The last half of the book just dragged on and there were probably five times where I thought the book could've ended yet there were still 100 pages left. I wanted to love this book because my best friend loved this book, but it just didn't hit the mark for me. I'll probably read other things by this author, but this one was just not it for me.
adventurous challenging emotional funny reflective sad medium-paced

About half way through this book, it seriously pissed me off! It tainted the rest of the book for me and I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much as I would have if the author hadn't done that. That didn't have to happen.

When I first started this book I really enjoyed it, however as I continued reading my opinion began to change. This book takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride that will bring out some strong emotions. For me the strongest emotion was anger!

In the beginning Harper is off to college and this is where she meets Chase and Brandon; two awfully good looking guys who she discovers a connection with. After awhile she decides to start dating Brandon but she still can’t shake the thoughts she has of hot guy Chase out of her mind. So one night she caves and gives in to the passion and tension she has with Chase, and that decision changes the course of her life forever.

The first half of this book was intriguing and intense. For the most part even though I liked Brandon, I was always rooting for Chase and enjoyed reading the scenes the two had together. I always wanted Harper and Chase to finally find a way to be together, which I knew wasn't going to be easy.

In the first half of the book everything is great but about halfway through there is a major event that really changes things. This event made me angry and upset because of how random it was, it seemed to come out of nowhere. The two characters involved were in a good place and happy but this event changed it all. One reason I feel like the author did this is because she wanted to please fans of both teams. However, when it comes to a love triangle someone is always going to get hurt. The girl is not supposed to end up with both guys, unless your Tessa because then you have an excuse. Overall I just didn't really like the direction the author took the second half of the book and felt a little like this when the shocking turning point occurred.

For this book I honestly think all of the characters and the plot itself were all entertaining. I just felt that some things were a bit random and that is what made me dislike it. If the major so called event didn't happen randomly maybe I would have been ok with it. But since it seemed to come from nowhere it really just made me angry. Overall I wouldn't recommend this book unless you are ready to get frustrated. As Always, thanks for reading my review. Much Love!
