I absolutely love this series! The mysteries are fun, the setting evocative and the characters are great. But the books are more than just cozy mysteries- the author writes wistfully and perceptively about aging and the way we view the elderly. As I get older myself, I can really appreciate the sensitivity and care with which the author treats his characters.

Audiobook. Read by Fiona Shaw

It has been a long time in which a book has actually made me laugh out loud and brought to moments of sorrow and tears. Fiona Shaw has done an incredible job narrating this one, bringing the characters to life.

Richard Osman has built a cast of characters who, over the course of each book, the reader grows to know and love as though they were part of life itself. Osman has a knack of capturing the human spirit and depicting life as one grows into the winter years of their lives.

This is a murder mystery series that is best read in order, but one that also feels like you are stepping into a world of comfort, despite there being a murderer afoot.
