I've always loved Agatha Christie's novels. Not so much for the crime elements as for the vibes and sheer cozyness. Richard Osmans "Thursday Murder Club" novels give me very similar vibes. This fourth book in the series just as much as the previous ones.
The actual crime story, while entertaining, is never my main focus while reading these novels. I'm mainly here for the characters and inter-personal relationships. Particularly among the four pensioners Joyce, Elizabeth, Ron, and Ibrahim. Always good fun!

More british than the others? The monarchy stuff from joyce had me rolling my eyes severely but otherwise readable and fun. I knew Ibrahim was my favourite for a reason
These books are SO good.
Funny, sad, engaging stories with twisty plots; surprises; well developed and interesting characters; wonderful dialogue.
The whole package.
Re-read for bookclub, Jan 2024 - still fabulous.

4.5 rounded down
I never expected this series would make me cry, but I was wrong. Stephen passing with grace and dignity and his farewell with Elizabeth (who can sometimes irritate me, but not here) had me in buckets.
Joyce harping on how Elizabeth helped him die annoyed me greatly. Of course, I tend to find her journal entries prone to being judgy, especially regarding Joanna.
Oh, and learning about Ibrahim's lost love! Awww! He's been alone so long, I am firmly on Team Ibrahim and Bob!
Ah, and the mystery was clever, though one reveal felt a little out of the blue, maybe?

The best yet. I can’t wait for these books to show up on PBS!!!
Ah Osman is back to his best. No 3 in the series worried me that he’d gone off the boil, but I really enjoyed this one. 4.5/5
Tidy writing, well-paced, consistent characterisation across the ensemble. Never going to win any high brow literary prizes but it’s a good read.
Several subplots that while link back to previous books can be understood in isolation. Enjoyed finding out more about Ibrahim, and Stephen and Elizabeth. Despite the rather high body count, one comes away with a warm fuzzy feeling. Genius.
