Let me start by saying that I do not recommend listening to the audiobook for this one. There was no emotional tone to the narration, so even in times of high stress, fear, or sadness; it all sounded very flat and made me feel detached from what was happening in the story.
As far as the book itself and focusing solely on the writing of the author, I would probably have rated this book 4 stars. The storyline is engaging as it's being told from a present day perspective with flashbacks to the past, and the atmosphere created by the author kept me feeling unsettled and on edge. I can't really say much as far as the characters go because the narration had me so disconnected.
Thank you to the Libro.fm Librarian ALC program, Thomas Nelson, and the author for this complimentary Audiobook Listening Copy.

This YA thriller/mystery was a bit boring IMO. I constantly had to fight to keep my attention on it (and the problem wasn't me). Also, although the narrator in the audio book did a good job overall, I could hear her breathing (which is the first time I notice, and I've listened to a lot of audio books) and it was annoying. We Were Kings by the same author blew my mind, so yes, my expectations were high, but this fell very flat.

I would give this more stars if I could. Court Stevens writes with delicious description. The story is gripping from the start. I wept so many times and my jaw dropped a couple of times while listening. I wish I could forget it and read it again for the first time.
This book was so good! I really wish I had wrote my review immediately after finishing the book Sunday night because I would have had a much better review. This book literally made me laugh out loud at parts and cry at others. I alternated between the ebook and audiobook. Both were done very well and kept me interested. I didn’t want to put it down! The characters were so well written and such a deep backstory, that I felt like I knew them. There did seem like a lot of characters at first but it was easy to keep them straight on who was who. This book is so full of misdirection, lies and deception. I thought I would have it figured out only to be thrown a curveball! This happened several times. I think I finally had it figured out just pages before the reveal. This story is told in present and a specific time in the past. It is revealed little by little throughout the book what really happened in the past. And then all the events that lead up to the reveal. This book was gut wrenching and heartbreaking. I personally felt betrayed! Which was kind of odd. Swipe over for the synopsis. Or don’t. And just go grab the book! I highly recommend it.
The narrator of this audiobook was perfect for this book! I had no trouble following along, she had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning. She was able to do a good job distinguishing between everyone. So much emotion was conveyed through her narration. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.

Firstly, this book was released on my birthday!
Ok, I noticed who the killer was right away? Yes. Was it still super fun for me? Also yes.
This wasn't a mind-blowing book for me, but I had fun reading it and it took me mostly out of my reading slump, as I read it in a day.

This was a great small town, who done it. The past is also at play and affects the present. I eventually figured it out, but I loved the twists and turns along the way.
Lucy is an air shooter with aspirations to go to the Olympics. She comes from a small town with a tragic past, and you get to know all of the main players at hand throughout the book. People have disappeared, people have died, and you get to unravel the mystery of what is really happening and who is responsible.
Great read.. 4.5stars.
Thank you to net galley and Thomas Nelson publishers for the arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received a copy of this from netgalley. Thanks, yo!
This is a mix of past and present storylines. In the past: a flood happened and traumatized a town. In the present: a murder happens and traumatizes a town. At first I didn’t think this book would be for me. I am a bit embarrassed to admit I was bored. But then I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. I liked hearing about the sport of shooting…not something a book normally covers when discussing sporty stuff.
The one issue I had with this audio book was the writer would take audible gulps of breath and often. It was very distracting.
