The Book of Azrael

Entertaining. Poorly written. Unspicy.

Was this book a fun read? Absolutely; it's a bit unhinged. It's also poorly written. There are many issues that should've been picked up during editing (e.g., paragraphs randomly changing tenses; repeated words; grammar errors). I thought this might be the version I was reading, but other reviews say they've been fixed in later versions. The ~notorious line about shaving~ had me cackling. The world building is lacklustre and I needed to not think too closely about the plot.

This book was recommended by my cousin as part of our Smutty Book Club!

This was a really good book, but wow did it feel like it took me an eternity to get through. The story is beautifully dark and full of atmosphere, with moments that were utterly engrossing and had me hooked. At the same time, there were stretches that felt unnecessarily long, with details and scenes that probably could have been trimmed without losing the impact of the story. When the pacing worked, it really worked, but when it dragged, it made finishing feel like a bit of a marathon.
Overall, I’d still recommend it. The world-building and writing kept me invested, and the best parts outweighed the slower moments.

4.75 ⭐️ This was a little slow at the start but as things kept building so did my interest. THE ENDING! WHAT! I’m obsessed with Liam I can’t even lie like he is a tortured soul and I love him a lot. Thank GOD that the next two books are out bc I would’ve lost my mind if they weren’t.

Ok I actually really enjoyed this book. Always appreciate a baddie FMC who takes no shit and the fact that she’s an older sister. The MMC who lets her be her fiery self. The enemy to lovers plot *chefs kiss*. Lastly the cliffhanger we are left iff of 😭

I feel like this book took a year off of my lifespan and I was fighting to get to the end. Somewhat alarmed by the fact I didn’t even learn what the Book of Azrael was until page 483, so everything up to that point had absolutely no relevance or purpose behind it because I did not know what the stakes actually were. The ending was pretty crazy though, and some of the fantasy elements were interesting so I will be continuing (I say as if I haven’t owned the entire series in paperback since February)

This is the first Fantasy book that I’ve read and I absolutely loved it! Wasn’t sure going into it if I was going to enjoy it, but I was hooked on the plot from the beginning!
