TLDR: Exquisite feminine rage + Frankendino = 4.5/5 stars!

Queer, feminist gothic inspired by Frankenstein but with DINOSAURS? Sign me up. I realize I'm a little biased(I have loved Frankenstein since 8th grade), and will admit it was slow to get into and veryyyyyy light on the romance. That said, if you do love Gothics/historical fiction and are not opposed to a heavier aspect of science in your science fiction I think you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

This was such a disappointing snoozefest. Goodreads advertised this book as a genre mix of horror and historical fiction. But after finishing it, I can confirm that there is zero horror in this book. It’s purely historical fiction filled with family and relationship drama, endless dialogue, and absolutely no suspense.

I was bored most of the time and skimmed through the majority of the book after the 20% mark, since nothing was really happening. At least not until around 70–75%, when suddenly everything happened at once, leading to a very rushed ending.

On top of that, the author seems to have an issue with men, as almost every male character was either a villain or full of red flags (looking at you, Henry!).

And the saddest part is: not even the idea was original — this was a retelling of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.

Overall, a very disappointing and boring read.
