Having been a huge fan of the original Frankenstein novel, I thought this was a well done, modern spin-off. I thought the author paid homage to Mary Shelley well. Absolutely had significant queer and feminist underpinnings to it and I appreciate the challenge to the time period’s status quo (most notably eugenics/racism and misogyny). I enjoyed the ending but it was low key predictable about half way through. Overall I really enjoyed this and it was a fun story to read.

Favorite quote: “There are some events too miraculous or coincidental, I think, to have occurred by chance… and some too terrible to occur by intention”

rating: liked!

since it’s based on frankenstein, my favourite book ever, going into it i had my doubts. but really, i enjoyed it more than i thought i would! it is kinda reminiscent of frankenstein in a way but it’s very much its own story. i like mary a lot, i like the way her relationship with maisie unfolds, i enjoyed the social commentary. all in all, an enjoyable book :3
