I loved this story when I was child and I just found a copy at a used book sale last week. I cannot wait to start reading it to my five year old. I used to read it every Christmas season as a child and I am excited to start the tradition with my own child.

I bought this copy for myself at Little Shop of Stories in Decatur, GA last night. It is my favorite Christmas story from my childhood.

I've read this book many times, and it remains my favorite Christmas book. I need to remember to read it to my kids!!

UPDATE 2024: I had read this book countless times. I loved it as a kid (I think I secretly like hearing about how naughty the Herdmen kids were), I have read it as an adult and loved the deeper meaning behind it. But this year I read it out loud for the first time, and to my 8 year old boys. They too loved hearing about how naughty the kids were. We didn’t finish it in time for Christmas (like everything this year I started much too late), but we finished it on New Years Day. Well, I finished it. The boys fell asleep quicky after a long day of playin with cousins, but I couldn’t stop. And for the first time ever in reading this book, I cried. The part that got me was when the Headmen’s bring their Christmas Ham to replace the stupid gifts of Frankincense, Gold and Myrrh. I cried and resolved to be a better person, and give my best to Him this year.

I loved reading this with my children. They enjoyed it so much. It was the perfect length to keep them interested, too. A Christmas classic.

I read this every Christmas, and I never regret it. It's a humorous example of childlike faith causing us to rethink our assumptions about the Christmas story. There are some obviously outdated gender role depictions, but otherwise it's a timeless story of reevaluating the universal applicability of the Gospel.

I listened to this in the car with my kids and though I’m not sure they got as much out of it as I did, I really enjoyed having something Christmasy we could all listen to together. It was fun and silly, but the last chapter really hit me in the feels. Definitely will come back to this one year after year!
