I picked this little book at the library because the title intrigued me.  It's an intriguing way to look at taking care of your house and yourself, especially if you are struggling.  This book teaches you to reframe how you look at "care" tasks (hygiene, cleaning, cooking, etc.).   This book would help anyone who is temporarily struggling (grief, depression, illness, injury), as well as those who are permanently struggling (ADHD, disability, chronic disease, being a caretaker.)

At first, some of the suggestions were the same as most self-help books (do tasks the night before to set yourself up for a good day, put on music to clean).  Still, others were out of the box (too tired to empty the dishwasher - take out the few things you need now, add the few that must be cleaned, and rerun the dishwasher.)

This book would be helpful for those struggling, but I think it could be even more useful for someone who knows a person struggling.  It would give them concrete ways to help the person without shaming them about the state of their home or self.

Gentle, compassionate and patient reminders of what it is to care for yourself and your space without judgement. Audio is phenomenal and built with intention of being mindful of those who are neurodivergent and may not have the capacity to listen attentively throughout.

Compassionate and practical. My only complaint is that images with text are too small. They're cute illustrations. I don't know why they're so small.

I never do self-help books but for some reason I stumbled across this and gave it a chance. This is a compassionate how-to guide for both thinking about your relationship to care tasks and actually doing care tasks. I thought it was a perfect balance of both.

It’s obviously written by a middle-class white mom but I think she does a good job of positioning herself and accommodating for people who live outside of that experience. Some of her tips about  parenting (or comments about having a kitchen island or laundry room lol) were irrelevant to me but could easily be skipped or overlooked.

This book was also super accessible as an audiobook and in general. I think it’d be worthwhile even just skimming it for someone struggling to maintain a clean or functional home space. It did really change my perspective on ~chores~ for the better.
