Love & Other Disasters

Adorable and quirky. Listened as an audiobook so genuinely couldn’t tell if it was well written bc my brain was filling in gaps. I enjoyed the story of finding love on a cooking show. Highlyyyyy recommended by Bethany.

Oh, dang, this book has fallen out of my brain since July. I remember that I was really charmed by it upon finishing, but it hasn't really stuck with me. I'm sure if I picked it up again, the reasons why I liked it so much would come back to me, but it does justify for me not giving this five stars on the first go-round, because a five-star read really should be "sticky".

Our two main characters in this here romance are Delia, newly divorced, and London, who are both contestants on a cooking show. I don't remember anymore what there "things" are, besides that Delia biffs it spectacularly on her first day of shooting, dropping her impeccably prepared tacos all over the floor. So that was pretty memorable. Also, I do remember it being super cute that London was always distracted by Delia because their work station was right behind hers, and they keeps staring at her because of her hair and her clothes and whatever else they are looking at that day.

Oh, and there was also a subplot in here about a dickweasel on the show who was being a bigoted jerk about London being nonbinary, and they have to deal with the producers of the show playing up that conflict for publicity. Hmm, and I seem to recall that London was very sweet and somewhat quiet, but Delia was a bit of a mess.

Anyway, I remember that I had a good time with it, so in that respect I recommend it highly!

I’m sure that in the end this book is great, but I got bored. I like books with challenges or tournaments, but here everything concerning the competition was skipped, even if it was the main setting of the book. I didn’t connect with the main characters.

Loved this queer romance novel about Dahlia Woodson (she/her) & London Parker (they/them). It was super funny to watch these two fall in love with each other. Especially the cow scene made me laugh so hard while I was in a train.
This book brought various emotions out of me: the whole plot line between London and their dad really hit me! In the end, it was good to see what London decided to do about this sadly relatable family drama.
All in all, the whole book was addictive, easy to read, funny, emotional moving, relatable and spicy.

At first I was a little thrown off by how little Cooking Competition there was in a Cooking Competition Romance, but as the story progressed I got more into it. Very little story actually takes place on the reality show, it's more of a backdrop to falling in love rather than an important part of the main plot, only coming into play when needed to push London and Dahlia closer together or further apart. Still, it was a fun romcom, like a queer hallmark movie, and I had a fun time once I got into it.

Also I need London Parker biblically.

I want to love this book so much. I want to read about a nonbinary character falling in love. I just cannot get into the plot :/

If you like reading romance and watching cooking competitions, this is the book for you.

I’m not the biggest fan of insta-love but I enjoyed this book. The characters seemed like they fit and understood each other. Also, the dual POV and the mutual (secret) longing was just so good.

Finally, the setting of this book, on a tv cooking competition was so great. Every once in a while I get sucked into Zumbo’s Just Desserts or another similar show and this book was perfect for scratching that itch.
