This was so exciting to read a romance novel with a non binary character! Really well developed characters, I grew to love them so much by the end of this read.

Love the representation in this book! We need more stories like this one. I cannot resist a love story involving food. I love that both Dahlia and London had real problems outside of their relationship and dealt with those problems as individuals instead of having those problems be fixed simply by them being together.

The writing was not for me (instead of seeing the scenes I wanted to see play out, we often got internal monologues from the two main characters after the fact). I also don’t like the instalove trope and I felt like the writer had a hard time integrating other characters besides the main couple into the story.

Regardless, it was a refreshing read!

Thank you Netgalley for the advanced reading copy! Dahlia and London both enter a baking show competition, and sparks fly! Dahlia is coming off a divorce and is on the verge of bankruptcy and London is non-binary, announcing their pronouns at the beginning of the show. Dahlia and London feel an instant attraction, but struggle with navigating romance during a television competition and their various forms of baggage with family and life. I really loved this book because it made me laugh, cry, and love both of the main characters. I think that Anita Kelly does a great job making these characters realistic and lovable, showcasing their various emotional states through a competition and while falling in love, while writing beautiful moments of sadness, joy, and comedy. The author is great at describing the fear and joy of falling in love while queer, as well as navigating complicated family dynamics. I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes cooking competitions, non-binary and mental health rep, and LGBTQ+ romance.

You know this book is legit because it engages in the time honored non-binary tradition of calling people by their last name if you're down bad.

I don't make the rules. I just know them. Representation matters.
