this was a very intense book and dealt with some less than pleasant matters but i still really enjoyed reading it.

i liked the way it was broken up into before and after the fire, it really kept my intrigue level up.

i think it was a little longer than it needed to be but that’s just me nitpicking.

moonbeam and honey and the rest of the kids just deserve all the happiness in the world thank you!!

Will Hill creates such a believable story about a cult and one survivor's life after the cult with such nuance and detail. You really see the progress and recovery the main character goes through, and by the end, I had so much empathy and understanding for people who are victims of cult leaders. Amazing story.

i felt it was slightly repetitive and could’ve gotten to the point faster, but it was mainly because the author wanted to portray the protagonists emotions properly and clearly, truly making the reader reactive. either way i was eager to find out what happens at the end.

Hill presents a brilliant and cleverly written novel with After The Fire. Moonbeam, a teenager who lives in an controlling and almost extremist Christian camp, decides she has to escape. So, when the FBI arrive, and they are told to open fire, which side will she shoot?

Hill has woven this story well, with it taking place after the fire (literally) with flashbacks to the time before, as she retells the story to the friendly pyschologist and police officer helping in the case. With twists and turns and suprises both in the past and Moonbeam's current, the story unfolds beautifully.
