I picked this book up during an Amazon sale months ago and finally had the chance to read it. The perfect read on a rainy fall day. This book is done so well!! It is told through three different characters narratives. This can be a hard thing to do well, but the storylines blend so well and the switching back and forth doesn't feel forced or like you have to stop in the middle of something.

I feel badly for all the Weyward women. I definitely would have enjoyed this more if I was reading it rather than listening.

Weyward was an enjoyable read, that was engaging to read, however was a bit of an easy read and felt the writing stylistically similar to a YA novel (content is definitely NOT YA as there are so many content warnings!)

I enjoyed the intergenerational stories and how the three stories built off each-other and interwove with one another.

Magical realism elements contrasted harsh, dark, and traumatic moments. Which there are many of. Trauma felt like a slight crutch of the book, but the story of Kate brought hope and conclusion to cycles of abuse.

I didn’t love the focus on birth, motherhood, and lineage. However I am not a mother. I was more drawn to the resilience and spirit of the strong women characters.

This was recommended to me for my love of all things witchy and it did not disappoint!

I listened to the audio book and I have no complaints about the voice acting. It was a good performance.

The positives: The multiple points of view mirrored each other quite nicely. The beautiful descriptions of crows and insects itched my brain and inspired me to paint a few paintings.  I loved how Violet’s interest in science mirrored her witchiness. I was interested in the authors comparison of male manipulators/abusers over generations. It’s a reminder of how far we’ve come and how far we have yet to go. And we as women are always stronger when we are uplifting each other.

The negatives: Kates character was missing a little depth in the end. I wanted to know who she became after finding her strength. Altha is already developed and we learn a lot of Violet’s adventures. I wanted the same for Kate.
