Weyward has an interesting premise. I enjoyed the characters, the atmosphere, the connections across time, and the descriptions about the beauty and wonder of the natural world. I listened to the audiobook, and the performance was excellent.

But the story itself is trauma after trauma, without much else to make up for it.
I don’t mind books that explore difficult themes—abuse is, unfortunately, a reality many women have faced—but this was overbearingly bleak. Around 70% through, I felt drained, wondering when these women would ever catch a break. It was exhausting.

By the time the main characters finally found freedom, revenge, or empowerment, it felt too little, too late. The amount of trauma far outweighs the moments of strength, leaving the story feeling sad, rather than empowering. It's very unbalanced and that's my biggest issue with Weyward.

I don't regret reading it, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. If you decide to pick it up, I encourage you to look up content warnings first.

This book was very good. It was very hard to read. I'm giving it a 3.5 almost solely for the fact that there is no Content Warning in the book. That is unforgivable considering the content of this book and her publisher/editor should be ashamed of themselves for not including one in the year 2023. I'm glad I read it, the story was powerful, but I'm not sure if recommend it to anyone simply because of how intense the subject matter is.

I really wish this book had come with trigger warnings for SA and s*icide.

I liked the story writing in the beginning, but the end really didn’t work for me.

Oh my god, I could not put this book down. I was so taken by the story and wanted these women to be ok so much and to see them growing in their power as the story unfolded was pure joy.
It can be a difficult read a time as it tackles some tough subjects (see content warning).
This book follows 3 women through the centuries, and the secrets that have been kept under key about their abilities and true power. This is also a book about men and their never ending desire to clip women’s wings and keep them silent and in cages.
I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone.
