One of the best books I have ever read. Literally in my top 3 of all time. Like another review said, I feel so bad for everyone.

Save the best for the last đó.

I picked this up randomly after seeing Keigo Higashino referred to as the Stieg Larsson of Japan. I'd definitely agree, as his attention to details is second to none as we follow an obsessed detective after the death of a pawnshop owner. And in turn, how it affects the murdered man's son, as well as the daughter of the main suspect.

It may be me moving in with my toddler niece recently, but getting through an almost 600 page book these days is a feat. I read three smaller books in the meantime while trying to get through this one. It wasn't bad, but it was 200 or so pages too long.

Fans of the dragon tattoo series will like this, but I'm thinking I started with the wrong Higashino book and will have to check out his most popular book, Devotion of Suspect X, to see how that book stacks up. He's got to be Japan's top thriller/crime novelist for a reason. 4 stars for ambition, character development, and attention to details throughout.

I think it was an interesting choice to tell the story from side characters’ perspectives but the sheer amount of them meant I just couldn’t tell them apart (let alone care about them)

I'm not sure just yet, but this book may be the worst book I have read in 2017. I figured the central mystery out about 50 pages into the book, while the detective doesn't quite catch on until the very last chapter. Instead of being convinced that I was right, however, I thought to myself: 'No way is this going to be the twist, right? Like, it can't possibly be this stupid, right?'

Well, yes. The 'plot twist' in Under the Midnight Sun by Keigo Higashino IS, in fact, as stupid as it is.

This book is a recommendation from a friend. I am likely not going to trust his recommendations ever again. What a royal waste of my god damn time.
