Audiobook - 4 hours 9 minutes - I thought this book played with some more interesting concepts than the first did, but it still could have explored so many interesting topics in so many ways. The transplant aspect was really interesting. To be honest, I would love a book focusing on the societal changes and ethics of Death Cast. However, I did like the relationship, even if, by default, it was a bit insta-love.

Man, why he gotta do this to me again? Gay heartbreak is too much for my fragile little heart (no pun intended). The little easter eggs were great, and I really fell fully in love with Orion and Valentino. Joaquin Rosa is the devil, though. Gives me the ick big time.

Heartbreakingly beautiful!
I could compare it with the first book but I kinda don't want to.
I love the Death Cast universe and I honestly can't wait for the sequel to come out!

the bits about Rufus and Mateo made me gasp and tear up, I love the interconnectedness of all the characters so so much.

Just like the first one this book shattered every piece of me, and then as it helped me sweep up the pieces of my broken heart, it threw the shards off a ledge. And it watched as I wept, it gave me tissues as I sobbed, and it rubbed my back telling me it was sorry for the pain. But it shouldn’t be sorry because I would do it a million more times for the beauty that comes with.

god I love a prequel that ties up a lot of loose ends and answers questions from the first book. This was another banger in this universe. Some of the foreshadowing was really obvious but I’m such a good little reader because I’m still like “oh my god!!!” when the twist comes. In my defense, I don’t think this was a big twist. This book was of course… so sad. But it’s a sad book so!!!
