I read this book to my daughter, Grace, when she was in the hospital with a scare of kidney failure!
Loved the concept/premise...the characters were interesting...but I don't know how to explain it, something about the ending just seemed sort of "flat" to me. That's probably just me though. Overall, a good book!
i read this in third grade and loved it but i dont like it so much anymore!
I wish my kid would actually read it instead of returning it to the library unread. It's the funniest kids book I've read in a long time. Good message too.
I read this as a bedtime book for a 10-year-old boy. It is so far the only book that he has actually stayed focussed on long enough to finish, so it certainly has his stamp of approval.
This is solidly a 'middle-grade' book. There were parts of it that were overly strange (the attackterriers and the children working in the factory), but I ended up actually being impressed by some of the bigger questions raised by the child characters. It even got the kid I was reading to to make a couple of comments about responsibility and thinking about consequences.

Took a little bit to get into the book, but my students last year enjoyed it, so I pushed through.
Got better in the middle, but the end was not super satisfying. Felt like it left a few too many things unanswered. There were also just a couple parts of the plot apart from the main plot that felt like they were thrown in there but didn't make sense/were unnecessary.
However, the premise was thought-provoking and was a creative way to show kids learning about the consequences of their actions and the effects on others. It also causes the reader think about it too: "What WOULD happen if _____ disappeared? How would that affect other people?"
