Very predictable and choppy. Seemed to skip some scenes that would have been helpful for character development.

It was a good read which I did enjoy. AnnieLee’s attitude made me laugh on more than one occasion. The secrets she kept and why she ran confirmed half of the theory I had concocted in the beginning of the book. It didn’t give me the whole ‘damn, how am I going to read anything else after this’ vibe, but it was still enjoyable.
⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ for the storyline. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for audiobook narration. I enjoyed the first 3/4. The last quarter kind of fell flat for me I loved hearing Dolly narrate.
Audio performance, including Dolly herself, ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was very underwhelmed by this book. I was expecting a lot more from it. I didn’t get pulled into the book until 300 pages in. I think it combines two stories together that don’t necessarily flow with one another. It could have easily been 2 different novels. The first half follows Rose’s journey to stardom (very dry and boring imo) and then her past. There was nothing making me want to finish reading the book, I could have easily stopped reading and felt at ease with that decision.
Not a mystery or a thriller. Just a story of a country singer trying to make it. The only mystery part about this book happens in the last 45 minutes of the book.
I didn't have high hopes, but this book still felt lackluster to me. The music industry references were fun little nuggets, and listening to Dolly Parton read her portions of the book was definitely worth it for a country music fan. However, the pacing was slow and I struggled to care about the characters. This book was an exciting idea that didn't have enough follow through and fell a bit flat. I'll forget the story in a few days.
