Annie Lee wants to be able to sing her heart out to the world around her, but the past just keeps sneaking up on her and it is a dangerous one.
It is an audiobook I borrowed from my public library, but it is a book on my physical TBR, so 1 of 96 done. Lol! I have a long way to go.
I TRIED to like this book! I love Dolly and James, but I did not love this book. It was such a struggle to keep going. The audiobook is told in all cast, including Dolly herself. The book...read more like a radio show and should have probably been a movie, not a book.
The lyrics in the book were dull because the cast is reciting them like you would at a poetry reading. And I grew tired of hearing the narrator say Annie Lee so many times. This character had me from the beginning, but then she just drastically changed.
I didn't understand that if she is running away from a dangerous past and doesn't want to be found, why in the world did you choose to be a country singer and be famous?! Just because you changed your name, doesn't mean your face changes too!
I'm more or less venting now. I found the story not entirely believable and found it also concerning that this woman is in trouble keeps telling herself to forget it and it'll go away. Time and time again that method doesn't work. I liked Dollys character, but not entirely as she does make some odd choices herself.
Too many side stories with not enough character development - this is purely my opinion. I'll always love Dolly and James Patterson. If you like a thriller type story with country music then I would say give it a try.

I love me some Dolly Parton, so I knew I had to get my hands on this book. Thankfully, it was available through audiobook from my local library, and it was extremely well narrated. I enjoyed the story and the plot and thought it was a cute book :)

The audiobook was great. I don't know if I would have enjoyed it as much reading it. Dolly's voice really added to the character.
Really enjoyed this one! Started off a little bit slow but picked up!
Start out good. In the middle it gets a bit slow but the last 100 pages everything happens very fast. Nice read. Songs that go with it are great. Dolly Parton, what's not to love, right?
