Run Rose Run by Dolly Parton & James Patterson

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK and I am leaving this review voluntarily

From America’s most beloved superstar and its greatest storyteller—a thriller about a young singer/songwriter on the rise and on the run, and determined to do whatever it takes to survive.

Every song tells a story.
She’s a star on the rise, singing about the hard life behind her.
She’s also on the run. Find a future, lose a past.

Nashville is where she’s come to claim her destiny. It’s also where the darkness she’s fled might find her. And destroy her.

An entertaining story of a young, talented singer trying to run away from her abusive past. I listened to this as an audiobook and the narrators really brought this story to life. I was a little sceptical going into this book but it was a delight to read and there is never a dull moment.

Rating 4/5

I loved this book! It was an incredible story. I loved how there were songs within the book that Dolly sings. There were a couple of twists I was not expecting, but it all came together. I do feel the end was a bit rushed, but that doesn’t stop me from recommending it.

Terrific. Dolly is one of my cultural and musical heroes, an absolutely brilliant hillbilly (it happens occasionally

2.5; it’s coauthored with james patterson so my hopes weren’t too high but damn they rly crammed every revelation into the last 5 pages huh

Run Rose Run—When I saw Dolly Parton had helped co write this book I knew I wanted to read it. A young girl is on the run and makes it to Nashville, hoping to make it as a singer, although she knows no one and has not a penny to her name when she arrives. We know she’s being pursued by someone dangerous and violent but we don’t know who or why. A country superstar who has “retired” hears our young character sing in a bar one night and is in awe of her talent. From there it’s a story of a rise to stardom, a dangerous past continuing to pursue her, and a love story. I loved the inside look into the music industry that was obviously based so much on Dolly’s own life, but this particular novel wasn’t my favorite. It was a fun read and a quick page turner but probably not the most well developed mystery I’ve come across.

I wanted to give this book way more stars. I thoroughly enjoyed it and loved the characters. I have a hard time with stories about victims of violence who continue to be victimized even though reaching out for help would end it all. I kept getting frustrated with Annie Lee (Rose), and assumed there would be a bombshell reason as to why she was so secretive and not willing to get help. I wanted there to be a darker reason on her own accord (like she killed an abuser or something)…

As of March 15, this is my current favorite book of 2022. This hits different and the effort in this Novel is huge. It has a whole country album dedicated to it. You can't go wrong with the three main characters. They were complex. They were planned. They were real. I just have to stan Dolly Parton after reading this book

edit: i forgot everything abt this book

What happens when you mix the country music world with James Patterson? A Fast paced thriller. I always enjoy James Patterson books. This was was different. I listened to the audio and was pleasantly surprised that not only did Dolly Parton co-write, she was one of the narrators on the audiobook. It was interesting to see the "behind the scenes" of the day in the life of an upcoming country music starlet and the Queen of Country who becomes her mentor and family. Of course, there's always the mystery of who is the startlet and why is is on the run? Some twists and turns I didn't see coming.

Had to dnf, really couldn't finish it

I listened to this audio, and I had a hard time with the parts Dolly narrated. I enjoyed the story ok, it was definitely a bit of a slow build though.
