This book was okay. It was written in typical Patterson style, simple and elemental. I decided to try this one because I like country music and was mildly entertained. The story focuses on a future country music star who left behind a very questionable and secretive past. She meets people along the way who help her in her quest for stardom all while hiding her past.
Eventually, all secrets are revealed and romance comes to fruition. Very predictable but entertaining.

While what happened to Rose is beyond tragic (and happens too often) the novel itself is well done. Enough suspense, warm fuzzies, and a bit of love to keep me engaged.

Dolly Parton being a co-author of this book alone skews the rating. However, for a thriller with James Patterson, they nailed the storyline and kept it true to who Dolly was. In a way, it felt like it was telling bits of her story with a twist and different POV.
Also, I’ll admit, about 25% through the book, I realized the audiobook might have Dolly narrating - it did PLUS Kelsea Ballerini. Once I figured that out, I never looked back. Run, Rose, Run with Kelsea and Dolly became my soundtrack for three days. I loved it!

A fun and engaging story with an ajr of mystery that keeps you reading on.
I listened on audible, and this is one of the only times that I can say that multiple narration (with a separate third person narrator and separate narrators reading only specific characters’ dialogue) actually worked well! However, more than one narrator are country music singers and they DON’T SING during the parts of the story that say they’re singing. They READ the lyrics. Why is Dolly Parton not singing lyrics in her own book? I’ve listened to audiobooks where narrators sing when there is a song. That is a big complaint I have about the audio. The story was decent; nothing too special. Popsugar reading challenge: a book with a palindromic title.
