This book was really fun and interesting story. Loved the suspense and the characters in this story. I would have loved more detail on Rose's past, but I loved how it ended with a happy ending. Highly recommend for fans of Dolly Parton and people who love redemption stories.

i borrowed this from my MIL and i will now be going and purchasing me a copy to reread ASAP! never a dull moment, a truly thrilling story that leaves you going WTF until the end. i FLEW through this book and tbh it kinda is my newest personality. I've been listening to the Dolly Parton album that goes along with the book on repeat since i started reading. Dolly and James Patterson write SOOOOO beautifully together i need more. RUN to the nearest book store, library, friend who owns the book and READ THIS NOW!

At 409 pages and 95 chapters, this thriller runs on and on and on...

AnnieLee Keyes, a young singer fleeing a violent past is a delightful stand-in for Dolly Parton. She is discovered by musician Ethan Blake after performing her first night at the Cat's Paw, a pub owned by retired country singer Ruthanna Ryder. Ruthanna has officially retired from performing but she still likes to write songs and have musicians over to her studio to record togrther. When she meets AnnieLee, she sees a bit of herself in this firecracker of a young, unknown performer and decides to take her under her wing.

Unfortunately, there are some mysterious elements from AnnieLee's past that are following her. For the first two thirds of the book, we have no information about the identity of the villains except that they know how to break-and-enter, attack, and rough-up AnnieLee. As they are both menacing and violent, they're clearly designed to create suspense. Unfortunately, all they created for me was dread and exasperation.

As we learn more about the antagonists AnnieLee is fleeing, the story grows clunky, creepy and sloppy  The villans are depicted as one-dimensional, down-home country people who are misogynistic,  violent goons, who I didn't find credible at all. I wish Patterson created these flat kin from AnnieLee's past with a little more complexity.

I read it because of the unusual pairing and through my deep respect for Dolly Parton. However it is a fairly mundane and predictable story.

Such a beautiful book! Absolutely love hearing Dolly Parton in the audiobook version.

Dolly!! So auto five star right there. My finger can’t help itself. Dolly is perfection… though bordering on overdoing the merch of late.
Two stars as a mystery…. Just ended up with men rescuing the very capable women. And a totally unsatisfying Bad Guy.
But liked the country music and nashville and little breathy chapters.
Three stars for the Dolly char and her anti-Eve protégé.

Ya'll! I wanted to love this book. I idolized Dolly Parton and think she is an absolute goddess, and I think James Patterson writes amazing novels.

Unfortunately, this one just fell flat for me. It's not horrible by any means. It was just very "meh." If you have seen the show Nashville, you'll probably envision that as you read this book, much like I did. It also reminded me a little bit of the movie A Star is Born. And then it had just a tiny splash of "thrill" in it (with the big reveal leaving me feelingvery underwhelmed). I loved the glam and Dolly Parton bibes of the main characters. But other than that, the story felt almost...incomplete?
