Let me preface this by saying I love Dolly Parton, and she is the best part of the audiobook. This was a slow-moving book, and the first half isn't needed for the plot. There are enough bits of reminiscence that anything vital from the book's first half could be referenced that way. They did make an excellent choice to have the teaser at the beginning of the book, or else I'm not sure I would have kept going. It was just such a slog to get to the actually interesting part of the book, and the driving action of the book is so short compared to the exposition.
The 5⭐️’s is for the audiobook. This narration is award-worthy.
I wanted to like this one more than I did. The book was fairly slow moving, more than a little cheesy, & the ending was wrapped up QUICK (like 10 pages quick).
Update- they’re making this into a movie with Dolly producing & starring, so I plan to see it. I think the story makes for a much better movie than book & I personally am blaming James Patterson for that.

⭐️⭐️sorry JP! This one, Run Rose Run, was to predictable. No twists. No turns. No suspense. No staying up late. Was looking forward to the read . . .fan of DP and JP but was sadly disappointed. Two stars for for short chapters and setting in country music atmosphere …Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and Little Brown & Co.
I wanted to like this book more because I love Dolly Parton, but I had never read any of Patterson’s work before. I was not impressed because it felt too straightforward. The plot was predictable and the main character, Annie Lee, was a strong, female character that endured so much abuse that almost seemed like a way to make her a victim to drive the plot along to make it more “exciting”. Although it was predictable novel and made me roll my eyes at time, I still enjoyed hearing a story of a young girl who stuck to her guns and found stardom along the way that relates back to Dolly Parton. Also, I read it while listening to the audio and really loved hearing Dolly’s voice in the audiobook, so that was a positive for me as a huge fan of Dolly myself.

It was okay…truly read it because Dolly co-wrote it…but it was nothing crazy. Unfortunately this will probably be one of those books that I forget all about in a few weeks…
