I felt like this book was absolutely just fine. What happens is exactly what was expected, I don’t feel like I lost time in my life but wouldn’t recommend anyone read it.
3 stars
I haven’t read a James Patterson book and a long, long time. But I couldn’t pass up this one with Dolly Parton as co-author. I love her and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.
Unfortunately this was just so boring. First of all this book was about 200 pages too long, so so slow, and then AnnieLee’s secret felt rushed and shoved into the very end of the book.
I almost didn’t make it through but I really wanted to know what she was hiding. Turns out it really wasn’t worth it.
I did love the part Nashville played in the story. The town felt like a character itself, from the honky tonks to the record deals, it was really interesting reading about behind the scenes.
I was really looking forward to this one but it fell short for me.

Run Rose Run wasn't quiet like anything else I had read. It was a wholesome country romance, as well as, a mysterious thriller. It was feel-good and twisty, wholesome-ly romantic and up-beat, mysterious and kept me guessing...I became invested in the characters and I really was rooting for their happy endings but then there were twists in it I didn't see coming and actually made me gasp. I "read" this via audiobook and I highly recommend it that way!! I think it added so much more richness to the story! Honestly, my first ever James Patterson (along with country queen Dolly Parton) and I am quiet happy with Run Rose Run being the first. I would recommend this read to anyone that is into country, romance, mysterious characters, twists, and happy endings; Run Rose Run has it all!!

Type of read: Commuter Read.
What made me pick it up: Dolly + Patterson = Instant TBR.
Overall rating: Welp, it took 51 chapters to get through generic girl on the run, thriller plotlines (gentle love interest and moody moments included), and actually get to something with a little bit of substance and even then it was STILL a slow climb to the top of the storyline (like another whole 30+ chapters...). I did like the inclusion of lyrics and songs within the back-and-forth conversation of the book; however, I think it would have been more impactful if it wasn't just spoken. I get what they were trying to do with making certain lines a constant throughout the book but after a while, it just felt cheesy and overdone. With so much already put into the performance of the audiobook, I think they could have found a more impactful way to incorporate these pieces. All that said, the audiobook narration cast is absolutely amazing and definitely brings the story to life; however, the pace of the book still leaves A LOT to be desired and at the end of the day, the story itself really isn't all that special or new.
Reader's Note: 'Run Rose Run' includes themes of death, physical abuse, and conversations pertaining to suicide.
