Quick, easy, entertaining read that fed into my hatred of all things Republican Party right now.  ✌️

Honestly…I thought it’d be a tough read given the political climate in the United States at the moment but slay. It’s just a story about a bunch of terrible people. The only downside is the ending. There should’ve been more divorce and more Leopards eating faces.

Really wanted to like this. The premise seemed interesting and drew me in. I assumed it would have a lot to say and tackle some meaty topics, leave me questioning myself and my own values. Unfortunately the political commentary is rather middling. This book pulls its punches at every turn. It does not seem interested in tackling these topics with any depth and left me asking: what’s the point. The characters, especially Ethan, feel one note and shallow. I don’t understand what his politics actually are, or why Gabe would be interested in him or want to stay with him this badly. You kind of get the gist of where this is going in the first few chapters and then the characters just repeat the same scenes and conversations slightly to the left for the rest of the book without going anywhere. It was a real slog to get through for something that didn’t have anything more to say about modern relationships and politics and life choices beyond ‘…meh.’

I wanted to love this book, but it ended up being very predictable. I feel like maybe it could make a good tv series but reading it just didn’t do it for me. It wasn’t awful but I just didn’t love it and felt myself putting off fishing it. I did enjoy that you were able to get multiple character viewpoints.

What a thoroughly enjoyable book. I really enjoyed both intersecting storylines and the author did a great job building the narrative without turning any of the characters into caricatures.
