Ugh...Mindy Kim doesn't see any Koreans at the Orlando, Florida Lunar Year parade?? Really, come on?!
She gets lost at the parade but has the wherewithal to go to the food stand before she goes to the police or an adult?
She "advises" her dad on dating one year after her mom's death?
Mindy Kim is uneven but it's a cute story.

An adorable book! An amazing book that shows diversity among Asian cultures, and definitely something many kids would appreciate for years to come.

I loved this! I thought it was so great. I love seeing all the different traditions for lunar new year! I love the game they played and it definitely made me hungry!

A cute little novel about a young girl visiting a lunar new year parade. The cast is very cute and talks about different facets of lunar new year in a very accessible way.

A Korean American #ownvoices early chapter book. I liked Mindy Kim, but was sad to see interior illustrations reinforcing slanted eye stereotype, especially when non-Asian characters get full circular eyes.

Mindy and her dad face their first Lunar New Year without mom. With the help of a few new friends, they still find a way to celebrate.
