Great read, very evocative and atmospheric. Great reader as well!

Oh my god, this author needs a way more hard-arse editor. Reams and reams of pointless back story about every character, and so much description about the most mundane things - pyjamas, kitchens, someone's hair colour, ugh. I skimmed about 3/4 just to get to the bloody end and find out what happened.

3.5 stars. Sufficiently intriguing, but not overly compelling. May go up in stars as I reflect.

Interesting mystery with a paranormal twist.

Deft thriller with supernatural components. I like that the characters are not all likeable, but they are honest (though apparently everyone in Unger's world is pretty beautiful). For some reason I love creepy stuff about creepy backwoods people who do creepy shit. Like that horrible "X-Files" episode that when I say just one or two words about it everyone is always OH MY GOD THAT ONE. We're all fascinated by icky hicks.

Read this in one sitting, started before my hubby came home from work and sped through the finish as he was napping, praying that he didn't wake up to disturb me from the trance of this book. Amazing, gripping, heart-stopping writing, fast-paced action, lovable, fallible characters, Lisa Unger was a wonderful gift to read. Finley Montgomery is a touch cookie, tatted and torn, a woman coming into her own powers. She is surrounded by ghosts and must come to terms with her own gifts to help another. Her visions kept me tearing through the pages, desperate with worry, anxious for relief. This novel is a true gem. To compare to to Stephen King is not giving Unger her due; she is a force in an of herself. Well done!

This book was given to me by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
