I loved the Crossfire series but hated the way that ended. This stand alone was like that last book. There was too much going on. It was very muddled and needed something to smooth it out

I DNF it the first time I read it....but I decided to give it another chance and although I did finish it this time (it turned out to be shorter than expected) it was a waste of time. That “surprise” twist at the end was a just dumb. A horrible disappointment from an author I usually like.

The twist in this toward the end was so poorly inserted, I found myself skimming back in the book to see if I missed an important plot point or obvious foreshadowing. There was none. Sad because I have enjoyed this author's previous work! I cannot recommend this one.

Don't read reviews before reading the book.
I didn't see the plot twist, but besides the initial WHAT reaction, it doesn't make sense, you cannot narrate in 1st person and then make that plot twist, it doesn't work like that, the only way was if she's going insane or something like that and she forgot everything before, but it clearly isn't the case. I think it was fun to be surprise by the twist, but it took away from the story of two people leaning on each other after a hard time

I'm not saying it wasn't a bad book, but it could have been much better. The action, the chemistry between the characters seemed a bit rushed to me
