Man, I wish I was the one stuck in a time loop so I could re-read it over and over again

This took me a few chapters to get into it but I enjoyed it once I got there! More Jumanji than Groundhog Day though - the main character gets three chances to make things right after a less than stellar Christmas holiday. I very much appreciate a main character who can grow and act like an adult and Mae does that consistently even when she's in such a crazy situation. Potentially, she grows up a bit unrealistically fast but I appreciated a character who doesn't just whine constantly and not do anything. I find that happens a bit too much in contemporary fiction these days. Bonus points for wacky family characters and traditions.

*I am WAY behind but I did receive an ARC from NetGalley*

3.5⭐️ loved the festive nostalgic feel, friends to lovers, Christmas traditions, fun in the snow… just didn’t wow me enough for a 4 or 5 star!

i’m so mad at myself for finishing this book on the 26th instead of the 25th but it’s fine. technically, mae’s vacation didn’t end until the 26th so it’s fine. maybe if i keep saying it’s fine i’ll believe it.

this book is basically the summer i turned pretty mixed with groundhogs day mixed with the christmas spirit.

i cannot read another groundhogs day book this year (i say as there are 5 days left in the year). i simply can’t. i’m really glad this book didn’t feel like it was milking the time travel plot though. like i was terrified that mae would mess something up near the end and then she’d have to explain everything to andrew and then they’d be like oh em gee i remember. that would’ve PISSED ME OFF.

i love that everyone was so completely casual about the fact that mae was in a time loop. because that’s a thing we are all totally normal about. anywho, the vibes were EXACTLY what i was looking for. am i still fuzzy on which adults are which? yes. but the vibes were so fun. i also pictured benny as bobby from supernatural for anyone who was curious.

the ONLY reason i can’t give this book five stars is for the mandrew and maisie bit which did give me mental hives everytime i read it (maybe that’s my fault for being a hater) but i did tear up at mae’s drawing for andrew because it was so tacky hallmark movie vibes it was perfect. and the milennial-isms. mae and andrew def know what their patron is. but i still loved them.
