Not really what I expected from this. I guess I was hoping for heart pounding fear but all I got was a luke-warm mystery with some garden variety magic thrown in as an after thought. Oh and some time travel in the last 15 pages?! Uhhh okay... the magic was all over the place and wasn’t consistent and there was no real “fear”.
Not really the classic Fear Street Saga I’m used to (or did I just get older?). Cliff hangers aren’t really cliff hangers, storyline is a bit messy. I was excited for this book since it’s been a while since a Fear Street book came out but it did not meet my expectations.

You May Now Kill the Bride (Return to Fear Street #1) by RL Stine was a book I had high hopes for that just didn't come to fruition. With Fear Street in the title, I hoped this would be campy horror of the trade paperbacks of my youth. This just wasn't that. Honestly, this read more like a YA Goosebumps to me. This book revolves around two weddings - one in the past and one in the present. There are some spells, some cursed relationships, and some sibling rivalry full of draaaaaaaaama throughout. The advantage of this is that it's a quick read. If you want a brief thriller, then this should work. However, if you're looking for this to give you the nostalgia feels, it won't. If you're looking for a pageturning thriller, it's not quite that either. Really this is just a story about a family and the mystery in their relationships, and it was okay.

What I Did Like:
-Magic. I was pleasantly surprised to find magic featuring in this one. I want more of that, I’m invested now.
-Fear Street. It’s nostalgic for me, BIG TIME. Plus, I don’t remember Fear Street books from my teen years involving the Fear family … so I’m very interested in how this plays out in this revised trilogy.
-Tension. This book does a decent job of bringing the tension and upping the stakes for our main characters. It kept me interested and I read this one quickly.
Who Should Read This One:
-A new generation of horror fans who are eager to learn about this genre. Fear Street is classic teen horror, better than most scary movies. Dive in and enjoy the scare.
My Rating: 3 Stars. This one falls to the niche of teenage horror starters, but it will appeal to them.
