This is the most astonishing book I've ever read. It's like a mature fairytale with poetry and adventure. I adore the characters, they're simply perfect as little grains of dust or pieces of a puzzle, they match together and form something that is clearly magical above everything.

This story has been in my life for a very long time. I’ve watched the movie countless times and remember rewatching it with friends to introduce them to this wonderful world.
Maybe that’s why, even tho the story is the same, it didn’t resonate the same with me in book-form as it did with the movie. And that’s okay! I think all my nostalgia and memories got in the way

Not my favorite Gaiman story but still an enjoyable listen - although to be honest, I could listen to Neil Gaiman read the phone book and be enthralled.
fast-paced

I gobbled this book up. The 1st act was enthralling, the 2nd was still quite good, and the 3rd was…merely okay. The ending is definitely the weakest part of the book for me.

I would still urge anyone looking for a shorter modern fantasy/fairytale (with a taste for Gaiman’s signature humor) to give this a read!

I just don’t love Neil gaiman.

The ending was lackluster but otherwise a nice story

This book is a magical, sweet, slightly strange (in a good way), quick read and I wanted to love it so much because the film adaptation has such a special place in my heart but I was truthfully just……. very bored the whole time. Maybe I would’ve had more fun with this if I hadn’t already seen the movie a handful of times but I would hope that books and their adaptations would be able to stand on their own (especially since the book is typically far better than the movie/show/whatever it’s turned into). The fundamentals of this novel are wonderful but there’s just something about the execution that doesn’t make it click with me… what a bummer

3/5 stars since I love the story but just wanted to take a lil nap every time I finished a page

Beautify written. A charming, magical fairy tale. Best read with a cup of tea on a rainy day.
