This is a stay-up just a few more minutes kind of a novel. Cecily meets Grant the summer before 9/11. He is caring for his brother, who is dying of ALS. In the aftermath of 9/11, Cecily learns Grant is not who she thought he was. In the 3 months that follow, more relationships are formed and unraveled as a result of lies that have been told by all involved.

A quick one with some very unlikable and unsympathetic characters who made some bad life choices in the name of love (that really cemented that dislike for me). I was much more into it until the twist and then I really couldn’t stand them but I was so close to done.

Liked it, but the love interest and main character are not as likeable as I'd hoped.

Is there such a thing as love at first sight? Maybe it is for Cecily. She met Grant in a bar after her break up with Matthew. They took it slow and then 9/11 happened. Suddenly, Grant was gone, and Cecily is engaged to Matthew with a baby on the way. However, not all love stories can be wrapped up in a nice bow. This was a quick read about a beautiful twisted love story. The characters were well rounded and nicely thought out. I can't stand Matthew and his 'holier than thou' attitude. I don't have any negative comment on this story. It was almost perfect, with the exception that I don't really see Cecily in real life going back to Matthew even after Grant's death.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this fabulous ARC in exchange for an honest review.

While this book definitely grabbed my attention right away and had me wanting to turn the pages as quickly as possible, there were many moments where I found myself almost rolling my eyes, like "really??" Parts of the story I loved but there were too many cheesy and unbelievable parts as well.

I always love Emily Giffin's works and I think I read almost all of her works. They read very easily, very enjoyable, and immersive.
I enjoyed this one a lot. Opened in a unusual way. The chemistry between the two protagonists is off the chart and I love it!
However, I really hate the plot twist. Not the twist itself but the reaction of the 2 characters to the twist.
SpoilerOne accuses the other of moving on too fast, almost as if gaslighting. The other came to the realization she doesn't really love the other and only the idea of him. WTH??
But in the end the main character realizes that she does love him. Make up your mind? You love him or not?
So yeah, that part didn't sit well with me and TBH I thought it ruined a perfectly good novel. It made the female protagonist seems a bit wishy-washy and only looking out for herself.
The author fixed it in the end with some explanation but still... I think it's an ink blot that stands out the most to me.
