The Lies That Bind

This book was okay. I never became engaged with the characters or the storyline the way I'd hoped. The book actually read like one long cliché. Not Giffin's best.

Another fast-paced, absorbing read from Emily Giffin. Cecily meets a man in a bar shortly after a break-up. Their instant connection is something more than what she's had in the past, and yet still mysterious in some ways. Months later, tragedy strikes, and Cecily's life keeps taking unexpected turns in so many ways. Readers will not want to put down this book so they can keep reading what happens next.

I loved this book! It was a delightful read full of nostalgia, including old beloved characters from Emily Giffin's first novels. I've been a fan since I first picked up Something Borrowed, I just love her ability to spin a tale that instantly sucks you in and takes you through the ups and downs of the characters. I really liked Cecily, I felt so close to her through her journey to happiness. I also loved that this wasn't your typical fairy tale ending. It wasn't certain the whole story, there was doubt and there were consequences. Another wonderful story by Emily Giffin!

So much drama in this book, but in a trashy way. Easy read, and I kept reading just to see what happens even though I knew what was going to happen. Predictable, but still trashy.

Ugh. Don’t bother. The only reason this book got two stars was that I managed to care just enough to finish it. It’s insulting, tone-deaf, and the easy coincidences and unbelievable human responses are just... ugh.

I don’t like leaving negative reviews. Normally, if I can’t give something at least three stars, I don’t review. I just want to save others from this mess. Giffin phoned it in on this one.

Thanks to Net Galley for the Advance Reader Copy

It was a quick read. I didn’t quite connect with the characters… in fact the main character was kinda annoying… but it also kept me engage. Just eh overall.

Not particularly interesting. Very transparent, shallow and awful characters.
I usually like a book, even if the characters are flawed. But I just couldn't find it in me to care about any of these characters because they were not well developed.
