⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book was a page turner. You couldn’t put it down between chapters. The characters were written well - I felt their personalities and understood their motivations. But it felt like one crappy relationship after another, with people having no idea of what a real relationship was like. 9/11 was thrown in as a way to progress one character and move on, which I didn’t like. If you’re going to talk about it, get into it. Don’t make it a blip in the story.
Cecily meets Grant right after a breakup with her boyfriend, Matthew. After a whirlwind of emotions, the story has many ups and downs. I thought the mystery of who Grant really was appealing, but much of the story is far-fetched. Even if Cecily is a Midwesterner living in NYC, nobody is that naive to trust someone without any idea of their background. A little disappointed, but still something I think many Giffin fans will like. Thanks to Edelweiss for the ARC.
I was really excited to pick up this book when I saw that it was one of those “people are not who they seem to be” type books. The first 60% of it was awesome and I was really enjoying the book, but then it totally fell apart. I found the ending to be completely unrealistic and the love story was too all over the place for me to really get into it. I’m bummed that this was the first Emily Giffin novel that I’ve read but I think I will have to give some of her other books a shot eventually.

The book had an interesting storyline, but I didn’t fall in love with any of the characters and I felt like it was quite predictable. The 9/11 portion was portrayed well and the storyline had the opportunity to be really good, in my opinion, which is why I gave this book 2 stars, but it definitely wasn’t my favorite.
Graphic: Death, Terminal illness, Grief
Minor: Homophobia
Honestly, I wanted to hate this book because people bashed it so much, but I have to say I really enjoyed it!
It had a few twists and the characters were flawed and some of it was sort of unbelievable...but hey, its a STORY!!! Don't we read for that???? I loved it! I actually cried in a couple of spots!
This is a great light, summer read!!!!

I’ve always been a fan of Emily Giffin’s books when I’m in the mood for a light, page-turning read. I found the beginning of this book to have the same feel as her other books and really enjoyed the first portion of the book. The second half, however, fell flat for me. I found that there were too many unrealistic plot twists and I did not really enjoy the way it ended. I gave this book 3 stars, because it was an enjoyable enough read but I don’t feel it really live up to its potential.
A solid 3 stars - loved the first half of the book and section related to 9/11 was very well done. The second half had my head spinning, the lead’s emotions were all over the place. I don’t enjoy authors making me like a character, then hate a character then expect me to forgive the character just because it fits a romantic ending. I think the lead would have been fine on her own.
I wanted to like this, I really did. And actually the first half was pretty good... but then it got so predictable and disappointing. Ugh... Grant is the worst. And Cecily? She seemed like such a strong character... until she took Grant back. Blech.
