Readable but weird

Absolutely delicious.

really liked and the plot def kept me guessing but there were a few tropes that were really cheesy

Cecily is in a NY bar and thinking of calling her ex when a stranger tells her not to do it. This sparks a whirlwind relationship between Cecily and Grant. Cecily is head over heels, but when Grant is missing following the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, Cecily learns that things are not what they seem.

This is my favorite Emily Giffin novel. I thought the characters were well developed. The storyline moved at an even pace. This was a quick read and I enjoyed it!

I received an ARC from an author giveaway on instagram.

Beyond terrible. If somebody had told me the “twist” and ending of this book I would have laughed in their face.

This was something. More of a 1.5, wasn’t the worst thing but I also think she packed waaaay too much into this storyline. First half was great which is why I didn’t give it 1 star.

I'm not sure how to review this other than Meh. It was predictable, and I felt that it was just meh. I don't know. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good.

Yeah, so...

I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

1.5. It's a rare rating for me, but this book is problematic. Giffin makes gratuitous use of the tragedy of 9/11 for her personal gain, and it is entirely inappropriate. She also somehow manages to create characters that are both hollow and unappealing, and the plot is nonsensical (especially after the halfway point of the novel).

Between this book and her Meghan Markle comments, I don't think I'll be reading anything else Giffin writes (or has written).

I wanted to start off my saying that I read every single one of Emily Giffin's books. I fell in love with her novels years ago when I lived in Atlanta and saw her first novel, Something Borrowed, on a shelf at Borders (yes, Borders!) promoting local authors. After reading, I immediately bought every book she had out.

I enjoyed reading The Lies That Bind. Honestly, I devour her books, and read this one in two evenings. I just couldn't put it down and had to know what happened. Honestly, didn't see it coming! I don't want to spoil any parts of the plots, but one thing that I really loved about this book is that the characters seem so real. Some are likable, some are not, but they feel like real-live human beings (and we aren't always perfect). Cecily, at some points you will want to hug her and at some points.... well, you won't want to hug her... you'll see!

Also, if you have read Giffin before, she often brings back characters from other novels. Look for a favorite one here.

Thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine Books for the review copy.
