A really excellent "read" to listen to on Audible while gardening. :)

Becoming Duchess Goldblatt was a quirky little book about the twitter personality Duchess Goldblatt and her rise to internet fame. There are also lots of personal stories about the author behind Duchess Goldblatt and her past.

It really took me a while to get into the rhythm of this book. I'm not familiar with Duchess Goldblatt so I was a little lost at first. When I settled into the book and stopped looking for a linear "this is how I built this" experience, I found a lot of enjoyment in the whimsy and random nature of this story. Duchess Goldblatt is endearing, wise, witty, and loving. She offers a lot of hope in a sometimes hopeless world.

If you are in the mood for a meandering, thoughtful memoir, give this one a try. I highly recommend audio. It was a fun experience with a great special guest.

Vulnerable and sweet. I started following Dutchess this summer when a friend told me about the account and recommended the book. I very much enjoyed reading this memoir. I want to give the author a hug, but alas, I don't have directions to Crooked Path. Must update my GPS.

2.5 ⭐️

A memoir about the creator/writer of the Twitter account, Duchess Goldblatt.

I was unfamiliar with this enigma, her followers, or her quirky relationship with musician, Lyle Lovett.
It was interesting, but I was clearly missing the point since I’m not, nor will I be, a follower.

Extra half ⭐️ for the audiobook narrator and the vocal appearance of Lyle Lovett.

I did not follow the Twitter account; I had never even heard of it. I only started reading because it was an audiobook recommendation from a book podcast I love, and it was available on Libby.

Unfortunately, I just really, really disliked this book. I found the author unlikeable, but beyond that, the book just felt pointless. The audiobook was only about 6 hours, but it felt endless. It may be more enjoyable for those who followed the Twitter account, but otherwise I do not recommend.

Oh man. I loved this book. LOVED. I'd never heard of Duchess Goldblatt when my friend passed this Advanced Readers Copy to me (it's coming very soon so keep an eye out!!) and I put it on my shelf with about fifty million other books I mean to read. In normal circumstances it would have remained there for a long time. But then we all got quarantined and I remembered it. "Wasn't there some ridiculous looking memoir up there about some woman who tweets as a fictional person? That could be just what I need right now." So I pulled it down. Being rather acquainted with fictional people, not only do I have best friends that only live in books but I also have a fictional twin brother (who I've neglected lately horribly, sorry Sebastian). So Duchess Goldblatt is definitely in my wheelhouse. I wish I'd been reading her from the beginning. But this book is not all about her grace, but mostly about the woman behind her, who remains Anonymous though she shares some very deep and gutwrenching stuff. She seems convinced, for most of the book, that she could never measure up to the fictional bon vivant she's created. This is definitely untrue. As the book progressed, it was clear to me that the author and the Duchess are not the same, but they are so tangled up in each other that I believe it would be impossible to love one and not the other. Maybe Duchess is able to snap witty things faster than the author, perhaps her fictional life is more glamorous, more sensational, but the heart and care and love, which the author espouses is real, belongs to the person writing. I don't know Duchess Goldblatt like I would if I was an active Twitter participant, but the author spoke to me in ways that were so familiar, so lovely, I can't imagine I could love her grace more than I did this book.

I was only vaguely familiar with Duchess Goldblatt prior to this, but her origin story is fascinating! An anonymous writer created this fictional social media persona as a distraction from a stressful time in her own personal life. What emerged was a tweeting beacon of humor and hope. Many of Her Grace’s tweets are sprinkled into this memoir. The styles works well. It’s a great read!

Adorable and charming and uplifting. Perfectly lovely.

Audio. This is the story of a woman who created a fictional Twitter persona called Duchess Goldblatt and the community it creates helped her through some tough times. It seemed.an interesting premise of people who find healing and community on Twitter, especially as the platform is unraveling. The author is anonymous and the story is about her life. What I struggled with were the inconsistencies of the story - she has no famous friends but then she knows a couple of famous authors, she knows only six people but she has people all over the country willing to receive packages from fans of Duchess Goldblatt. It's short, just fiveish hours and i went through it quick but was left wondering maybe if the anonymous author's story was also partly made up - some.kind of first person unreliable narrator.
slow-paced
